[All Platforms] Consolidate duplicates

It would be nice if Spotify can recognize identical songs to avoid duplicates in your Liked songs and playlists.

This is pretty common for songs released first as a single then within an album.

For example, if you like the single one, the UI will not show the song as liked when you browse the album. And if you like the song in the album, you'll end up with a duplicated version in your library.

This also happens a lot for songs that you listen in Daily Mix or Discover weekly. If it's not the exact same song you have already liked before, the UI is inconsistent and you can save a duplicate.

Apparently, there is already an internal merge mechanism as the play counter is not split between the different versions of the songs. Maybe this can also be used to consolidate the UI.

Years later, I still often get a problem where Liked Songs in my list are unliked, but stay in my list.

In this picture, I'm listening to the exact same release, but according to the Now Playing tab, the song isn't in my Liked List. This is how the song is truly treated, and the version of the song in my Liked List is basically obsolete.

I want to stress that these are identical releases. This isn't an alternate version, with a different mix or a different cover, it's the exact same. However, if I were to click on the album these songs are supposedly Liked from, none of the songs in the album would be treated as if it were Liked. When I save the song to my list again, it appears as a new entry. Interestingly enough, if I were to unlike this track, both instances of the track would be removed from my Liked List.

Spotify often confuses its own releases with itself, and it's incredibly frustrating to unlike and relike tons of songs over and over again.

Same Issue, same ( for me totally annoying) Issue for Years.

This was the first i saw in my list.

Its 1x Song - with the same Plays, so both Entries in my Follows are the exact same Song, but show up as 2x In my Fav List and on Artist Page.

Well sure, i could "unlike" one song of those 2 diff. album entries, which also have same Song, Plays and so on.

But if i unlike one Song, both disappear and are unliked. Which is pretty annoying as i like the see when i first found a Song.

So now i would have to "re-like" the Old Song, which kinda ruins the whole purpose of it, and also disrupts my "new songs" List, as those Playlist mix in the old song as a "new".

"But why like the same songs again?"

Well, sometimes Songs dont show up as liked or get uploaded to another Album, which the algorhythm kicks in and shows me " a song you could like". Sure i could check every song in my liked songs, but come on.

+ So its a dublicate entry for the Algorhythm and multiple Versions on Artist Page,

I doubt its so hard to fix, as its just a "dublicate Check", Same Artist Page, same Artistname, Same Songname, Same runtime, same Album Picture = Dublicate.

I was adding songs from one album to the next and accidentally pressed add all instead of skip duplicates. My album that I was adding to is very long and it would take a while to find those duplicates I accidentally added, so I thought it would be a good idea to add the option to get rid of all duplicates in that album that you are currently active in. And it would pop up in the same area as where you “add songs to queue”, “go to album”, “share”, etc.

Hi Spotify Team,

I love your platform and I use playlists a lot, but the current experience is frustrating when it comes to managing large playlists. When a playlist grows to 500+ songs, it’s almost impossible to manually scan for duplicates.

I’m surprised there’s still no built-in “Find Duplicates” feature or a simple toggle that highlights duplicate tracks within a playlist. This would save users a lot of time and prevent the playlist from becoming cluttered or repetitive.

Feature request:

Add a button or view option that automatically detects and displays duplicate songs in a playlist, allowing us to remove them with one tap.

This is a small update that would significantly improve the user experience especially for those of us who build and maintain large playlists.

Thanks for considering this!

Looking forward to seeing this feature in future updates.

Best,

Dalia

There should be an option to remove duplicate tracks in a playlist instead of having to manually search for duplicates should any exist.

This duplicate issue is a big problem. Also a big dissatisfier for using Spotify. I get that there are live / remix alterations of the song, the issue is single and various albums and having to fumble through 5 instances of the same song which messes up playlist managment. There has got to be a way to link singles / album versions of the same song. Please!

Main Issue for the Dublicates, Daylists in my Case.

I like Daylist, and i usually have like 3-4 liked songs  and in rare occasions 6-7 Songs liked of those 50.

I wouldnt really complain about the Ratio.

But there are more then those songs, because the Dublicates ( Album Version, Single Versio, Mixtape ) are also shown which are about 15-18 of the total 50 songs.

So it shows you a lot of songs you already liked, but it doesnt show as liked which sometimes causes you to like it again.

Yes, you can of course check every song if its liked .. but lets be honest, i cant and i dont really wanna do that for EVERY Song, where i kinda expect it already showing me a liked song.

Like written in a Post before. Its often the same Song, but uploaded in diff. Versions. a Play counts as a overall Play for that Song. But somehow, you could like 10 Versions, have a Playlist of 10x the same Song, in diff. Album Versions, and if you unlike 1 of them all are gone, as they are counting as the same.

it doesnt make sense.
