[All Platforms] Consolidate duplicates

It would be nice if Spotify can recognize identical songs to avoid duplicates in your Liked songs and playlists.

This is pretty common for songs released first as a single then within an album.

For example, if you like the single one, the UI will not show the song as liked when you browse the album. And if you like the song in the album, you'll end up with a duplicated version in your library.

This also happens a lot for songs that you listen in Daily Mix or Discover weekly. If it's not the exact same song you have already liked before, the UI is inconsistent and you can save a duplicate.

Apparently, there is already an internal merge mechanism as the play counter is not split between the different versions of the songs. Maybe this can also be used to consolidate the UI.

please make an option to remove duplicate songs from a playlist.

i wanted to merge songs from one playlist to another but it just added all the songs including duplicates - some even added for a third time.

it added about 600 ish duplicates which not only do i have to go through and manually delete but when i do it deletes /all/ copies not just the one i've selected.

please add a pop up that allows for the option to exclude duplicates when merging playlists OR a 'delete duplicate songs' option

please for the love of god i feel like this app barely makes QOL updates.

My Question or Issue

Over the years I've marked many hundreds of songs as liked with the heart symbol (that is a 'favorite' or 'favourite' song).  However when I play the albums that these songs were from they do not always show as being liked (the heart symbol is not green) in that view.  This has resulted in me accidentally adding duplicate liked songs.

Every now and then I find a duplicate in my "Liked Songs" list and click one of them to "un-like" it and both songs disappear!  Annoying!

I understand that an Artist may have a duplicate song in different albums (such as a compilation album) but I usually "like" a song from its original album.  So why is it when I play an album which I have liked songs from the hearts icons are not always green?  (This is an intermittent problem, it happens enough for me to notice but not all the time)

EDIT: The problem also happens from an Artist's page.  If I have previously liked one of the Popular songs, they do not always show the green heart icon.

Resolution

1. Please make it not possible to "like" the same song, from the same album, twice.

2. Please ensure that when viewing an Album a song was liked from it always correctly shows as liked.

3. Please ensure that when viewing an Artist's page that Popular songs which have been liked they always correctly show as liked if they are from the album they first appeared in (sometimes these Popular songs may be duplicate songs from different albums)

4. Ensure that playlists compiled from an Album where a song was "liked" correctly show the liked symbol also.

Thanks!

EDIT: The problem I reported is more than just the duplicate issue!  Because tracks are not marked as 'liked' when viewed from their original album some time later, this bug actually leads to duplicates being created in the first place!

Totally agree. Obviously only if the song is identical. The songs that are different tend to have in the title. "-single version" , "studio version", "album version" etc.

It happens a lot in deluxe versions of an album and compilations. And I hate so see duplicated songs in my likes playlist.

I can't stress enough how important this is! A lot of album versions are replaced and then songs I already liked show up in Discover Weekly. It became impossible to find new songs this way, since I keep running into the same songs.
Also, should be quite easy to implement, since listen count is the same for both versions, so there must be some existing mechanism that does it.

A very simple implementation would be a script that likes all "duplicate" songs and just a new attribute that indicated for the copies that they should not be directly included in "Liked Songs" playlist. Probably a few hours of development that improves the user experience drastically.
Even though I really like Spotify, I've started looking for competitors, it's that important!
