[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

This is such a no brainer for a music streaming service as widely used as Spotify. I know dozens of people (mainly parents of young kids) who would LOVE an on/off button that could simply exclude songs with explicit lyrics. The songs are already identified - wouldn't this be the simplest of things to do??

Finally figured out how to get a picture added. I'm running a cyanogenmod android OS on my HP Touchpad. Spotify from the play store. I loaded the app and a pop up appeared highlighting that the radio I had chosen contains explicit lyrics and whether i wanted to disable it. I clicked on the button that took me to the settings and there it was. disabled it. As mentioned, I cannot find this same setting on any other device, not on my wife's iPhone 6, my Galaxy S7 nor on my PC. As to whether it works - dunno. I haven't been home to listen to music on the tablet. i didn't hear an explicit song in the hour i listened the other day, but then, i didn't go looking for a station with lots of explicit songs.

just tested it. when i choose a radio station with explicit songs the explicit songs are greyed out and if i click on them the pop up appears. That's all I've got. Don't know why I have this and you dont.  20170913_191805_resized.jpg

Just do it !!! I'm furious about Spotify. Why a so simple feature make 3 years to be apply! Perhaps because Spotify is so occupied to take my money!

@Abpilk what version does the Spotify app say it is?

Reached out to @SpotifyCares (lol) on Twitter... canned response about how they're always testing new features, can't comment on ETAs, etc...

Nice Jay, we should all start tweeting in response. It seems they check twitter way more often than they check here.

It was Spotify's Twitter team that pointed me in the direction of this
thread. Sounds like appeasement is the name of their game.

@JustanotherJay

Yesterday (09-12-17) I suggested that Spotify do something about the explicit music on their site so we (as parents) can block such music out. It was noted to me that this was a duplicate idea and my suggested has thus been moved to "Duplicate" and "Closed" and was directed here to comment. So here goes:

It appears this idea is not new and has been floating around for some time, looks like since 2012??? Really??? Spoitfy??? You need to listen and do something about this. A button or filter or making another spofify site, with all the same music and choices (except for the explicit music) are good opitions. Maybe not all our ideas are workable but I am sure there is way for you to make this issue a reality. I have not read all the comments but it appears that this issue with explicit music is a serious concern to many of your listeners. I hope you will take our concern seriously.
