[All Platforms][Other] 2-Factor Authentication

Spotify should, as a matter of good practice and safety, implement 2-step authentication.

Previously, Spotify enabled the option to log out other sessions other than the current session.

This would prevent hackers from stealing accounts, which would additionaly lead to less account hacks and less work for Spotify employees to assist in these cases.

Hi everyone, thanks for bringing us your feedback in the Spotify Idea Exchange. We’re ready to mark this idea as ‘Under Consideration’.

We are currently investigating various solutions for account security for our users, e.g. 2-factor authentication. Any news regarding user-facing security updates will be posted to this thread as a status change.

In the last 3 months I have been asked to reset my password at least 7 times.  This is very frustrating.  I have always kept my Spotify password separate from any other passwords.  I inquired with support and they confirmed that there had been no suspicious activity on any of my devices, but could not provide an explanation for the repeated password reset notifications.

I then suggested what about secondary authentification software and whether Spotify had any plans to add this feature to the app.  Many companies that require passwords for signins are moving to this feature to avoid password issues.

I think it is a great idea.  Sure it takes a bit longer to sign in, but it certainly would cut down on the need to reset and then remember the lastest password.

Thoughts anyone?

it's been a while since I did an update but I thought I'd share what the last year has been like in my inbox. note that some of these have multiples (up to 5) in a day, so these are pretty much constant, and none of them are from me.

this has to stop.

So with the price increase, does this finally mean they're going to use this extra money they're taking from us to add basic 2FA? No? Typical.

Every time I log into Spotify, I get an email within minutes saying "We noticed you logged in from a new device. If this was you, there’s nothing for you to do right now.".

Without fail, within a few minutes/hours, I get another email saying "To protect your Spotify account, we've reset your password due to detected suspicious activity. You need to create a new password to log back in. Just click the big green button."

This happens every single time. So I pretty much have to reset my password every time I use Spotify.

Security measures are a good thing, but this is overkill. Would 2FA not be a better solution?

With all the hacking and data leaks happening I believe 2-step verification would be great to secure our accounts and avoid the hassle of resetting your account information and avoiding our algorithms being compromised and having to erase all the unwanted music added to your library. Please add 2-step verification for our privacy and security! Thank you 🙂

Hey.

It's been almost ten years.

Moderators keep merging this topic with other topics and then Spotify resumes doing nothing. Just shuffling it around.

We're more than 80 pages into this topic.

What are we doing? What is this?

Use the recent subscription increase to implement this. You keep raising prices but doing nothing. Services that provide the exact same music and 2FA and lossless audio by default are cheaper than Spotify now

It's been interesting seeing dozens and dozens of feature request threads just left to fester over the years. I get it, no company is your friend, but it's like you're abandoning the only product you have. Tacking on random features is essentially just throwing things at the wall and hoping it sticks.

We got audiobooks before we got 2FA. In a music app. That's... a choice.

It's actually more than 11 years at this point, because there was an older issue from 2013 that was closed in favour of this one.
