[All Platforms][Other] 2-Factor Authentication

Spotify should, as a matter of good practice and safety, implement 2-step authentication.

Previously, Spotify enabled the option to log out other sessions other than the current session.

This would prevent hackers from stealing accounts, which would additionaly lead to less account hacks and less work for Spotify employees to assist in these cases.

Hi everyone, thanks for bringing us your feedback in the Spotify Idea Exchange. We’re ready to mark this idea as ‘Under Consideration’.

We are currently investigating various solutions for account security for our users, e.g. 2-factor authentication. Any news regarding user-facing security updates will be posted to this thread as a status change.

If you'd like further information about protecting your account please visit our Support Site here.

I need 2FA so people don’t enter my account, change my plan to family and add their accounts.

It happened and I’m not happy they dont have 2FA, considering the size of their platform.

Hi, currently the Spotify accounts aren't secure. In this day and age a password alone is not secure. Using brute force attacts or simple social enginering, bad-people can find out what the account password is. So, please add some sort of 2Factor Authentication to the spotify accounts.

Yes you provide, google and apple ID logons, but those are "extra". Since the account always has a basic password, it needs a 2factor authentication.

I prefer TOTP, bus simple sms or an e-mail validation would also be enough.

Atleast put something in.

Had someone hack my account, as other people pointed out, this wouldn't happen if a basic security feature like 2fa was enabled. I know Spotify is a small company so this basic standard would be hard for them to implement, especially because they have been increasing the price of membership a lot over the past few years. I hope they have money to feed their families.

please add 2fa to spotify, the security of spotify account are always at stake without 2fa being available to the consumers. It is pretty easy to hack a spotify account, I changed my password multiple times just for people to log in from different parts of the world. 2fa is needed on spotify

Why is this not a thing?

Status: Suggestion

Spotify has taken some excellent steps toward account security, but improving 2-step authentication would enhance safety and user trust even further.

Currently, Spotify offers standard login credentials, but incorporating more robust 2FA options—such as supporting multi-device authentication apps—would be a significant upgrade. This would allow users to secure their accounts even if they switch devices or need to recover access.

A stronger 2FA system would reduce account compromises and lighten the workload on Spotify’s support team when handling hacked accounts.

For instance, apps like Authenticator support multi-device syncing, backup, and cross-platform compatibility, making it easier for users to manage their security without fear of losing access.

Looking forward to seeing Spotify consider this update as part of its ongoing commitment to user safety!

My account was recently hacked into by 3 locations in the world (not me) and my plan changed without my knowledge. I contacted Spotify Support and John B was a great help.
I did ask him a question if there was a 2-F feature so that I can use it with Spotify and the authenticator app on my phone. He advised currently there is not. As such, I would like to make a suggestion to add so that other accounts, not just mine, could have that extra added security if they wish to use.
Thank you,
Val

Who's ready for the 10 year anniversary of asking for a basic security feature that almost every other service offers and still nothing? Get ready for the countdown while we continue to be ignored 🥳🥂🎆

@02browns: The day has actually been in my diary for a long time. 🤗😉

To protect our accounts against data breches and hacking, you need to allow 2fa.  If this isn't put into place soon I am going to delete my account and go back to Apple music because it is more secure. Numerous people I know have had people access their Spotify accounts because of this.
