[All Platforms][Other] Romanized Lyrics for Songs Not In Latin Alphabet

Recently, Spotify (at least in my iOS app) has added a very helpful feature which is lyrics. It finally collaborated with Musixmatch (thanks God why haven't you done this sooner).

Problem is, I am an Indonesian listener who is familiar with Latin alphabet. I loved many Asian songs, which we know, are not written in language using those Latin alphabets, namely K-Pop, J-Pop, or you name it. Those songs' lyrics are still shown in their original alphabet (K-Pop in hangeul, J-Pop in kanji and hiragana, etc). Usually, foreign listeners are able to sing-a-long by looking at the romanization version.

Now I know that Musixmatch indeed does not have that romanization lyrics, but Genius does and I know Spotify has partnership too with Genius, I guess? So, why not give a choice for listeners to choose between Genius or Musixmatch?

TL;DR:

1. We want romanized lyrics to Asian songs or any songs not using Latin alphabet

2. Give options for Spotify listeners to choose which version to show

3. If Spotify can no longer show Genius' service, push Musixmatch so that they make romanized lyrics available.

Sincerely,

Global Spotify member.

[UPDATE 10 JUNE 2025]
Just watched WWDC yesterday and App** Music added lyric pronounciation.. and yet this idea is just sitting here with no news?

[UPDATE 2023]
A comment below notified me that Musixmatch has provided options for translations and indeed they are now shown in Spotity. I see this as a nice improvement! However, what we wanted is a romanized version of the original language so we can do sing-along 😞 Please make this happen!

I hope this message finds you well. As a passionate K-pop fan, I greatly appreciate Spotify's vast selection of Korean music. However, I wanted to suggest an enhancement that could improve the listening experience for many fans worldwide.

It would be incredibly helpful if Spotify could include the romanization of Korean song lyrics alongside the original Hangul text. This feature would allow international listeners to sing along more easily without needing to switch to other platforms like YouTube or lyric websites.

Thank you very much for considering this suggestion. I believe it would make the Spotify experience even more enjoyable for K-pop fans across the globe.

Please make a new feature on lyrics.. add romanji or make the lyrics customizable.. thanks

Would be cool to have a feature of direct roman translation of foreign lyrics to sing along in the song’s language instead of english language only 🙂

The idea is I want to sing the song but I have no idea what is the lyric for it is either in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
It would be great to have romanization so I can sing a long.
I think it is not that hard by current technology because Spotify already has the lyrics, we need a toogle to switch it to romanization version.
The benefit is huge, mainly I can sing along in addition of learning how to speak in the respective language.

There should be a toggle to switch from a language's original script to the English alphabet. Also, it's 2025. How is there not a K-pop section on "Browse"?!??!

I listen to a lot of songs in Japanese / Chinese / Korean which are written in their language. As I cannot copy any text, it is difficult for me to even understand the name of the songs, let alone difficult to search for it online.

I noticed this somewhere—for ex: it is written: 僕のヒーローアカデミア and I can't read it, so I could toggle and see the english transliteration of it, Boku no Hīrō Akademia. This way I would know what is written. The translation of it would be, My Hero Academia.

I think the same would do for lyrics as well, but this doesn't look like a big need!

TL;DR: Able to read name of the song if it is in other language's character and I don't understand it.

Like Spotify, there should be an option to choose different languages for songs. For example, adding English dubs to Japanese music would help people understand the lyrics.

I would like Spotify to make Pinyin available along with ideograms in oriental music

I hope this request gets more attention and the traction needed, because I came here specifically because I was looking for information as to why we still don’t have this option!!! I exclusively listen to K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop and the only time I listen to songs in English, they are solely from Korean, Chinese, and Japanese groups/artists. When I’m listening to Spotify, I also need 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘶𝘴, 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘹𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩, 𝘈𝘡 𝘓𝘺𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘴, etc open to sing along (romanization) or find the meaning of the song (translation) and it’s very frustrating. As a long-time premium customer, it’s disappointing that Spotify hasn’t made these essential lyrics improvements (as they keep changing everything else) and I’ll continue to be disgruntled until they do.
