[All Platforms] Separate Queues for Podcasts and Music

Hi there,

Would like to propose this again as it looks like related tickets were closed and not addressed.

Just want to share a concrete example on why this would be helpful... Throughout the day I'm listening to either music (while working) OR podcasts (while commuting). If I'm commuting to work, I'd like to queue up podcasts to listen to while commuting. This includes coming back to the same podcast queue when I'm commuting home from work (ie. same queue in the morning and evening). The problem is, I listen to music during the day while I'm working. So I need to clear my podcast queue and then queue everything up again after work.

I think fixing this would increase user engagement on your apps. For example, having my podcasts on Apple podcasts is just more convenient now because I don't need to deal with this daily inconvenience. Every week, that's multiple hours of engagement per user (for a subset of podcast listeners) that you could be gaining back.

I'm a huge fan of Spotify, so I'd love to be able to seamlessly use your app over Apple Podcasts for this use case. Thanks

When I have podcasts queued up I have to go to youtube to listen to music, even though Spotify has all the music I want. To listen to music when I have podcasts queued in Spotify I have to clear the queue to keep it on music, and then reconstructing the queue is a pain so I end up not bothering. If you want us to listen to Spotify instead of Youtube, you should fix this!

Yes, totally agree with the comments. Google podcast refugee here. If Spotify doesn't fix this (separate queues for music and a separate queue for podcast so the two don't mix) I will use a different podcast platform.

Hi all,

this idea here is the same as one as this one but has more votes, maybe it would help if everyone comments there as well as well as voting: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/All-Platforms-Separate-Queues-for-Podcasts-and-Music/idi...

As Google Podcasts will be gone on 23.06.2024, this feature is even more important to have as these users would now want to use Spotify both for podcasts as well as music. Come on Spotify, it should not be that hard!

I listen to podcasts for an average of over 2 hours per day according to my podcast app (pocket casts) and this is literally The biggest thing stopping me from listening on Spotify, especially since i already support 3 podcasts (decoding the gurus, conspirituality and the rest is history) and have a Spotify premium subscription

Like many others, I'm here after Google ditched Podcasts. I was hoping to replace it with Spotify, but it simply doesn't work. Mixing the podcasts and music experience doesn't make any sense at all. I would very much rather having a separate Spotify app only for podcasting, rather than the bloated app we have now. If I find a different service that handles nicely both music and podcasts, I would consider closing my Spotify account after almost 10 years.

Edit:

I found a competitor which does exactly what people here are asking for: under the same app, it has two completely isolated sections for music and podcasts. The offer is quite compelling, because it offers more than audio for a low price.

@davidgf987 which app is it?

davidgf987

@ehrimen it's Amazon Music. You can easily switch between music and podcasts, and each section is totally independent, with different listening queues.

I'm about to take the leap from Google Podcasts and is chosing between YT Music and Spotify. If Spotify could just fix dueal queues, it would be a nobrainer. It currently makes more sense to use YT for podcasts and Spotify for music though.

@davidgf987 Thanks for the answer. Now I changed to completely different Podcast app due to this issue and frankly now I am wondering if I need Spotify after all. Before I was forced to use YouTube Music for songs and Spotify for podcasts but as Spotify annoyed me with even my queues are disappearing all the time - let's see how long I will keep it.

All in all, this functionality is a no-brainer for everyone except Spotify product team.
