[Amazon Echo] Alexa controls via Spotify Connect

There should be a way for any Echo to control a remote spotify connect.

say my speaker that has spotify connect and is playing Elvis. I should be able to use any Echo to change that remote speakers playlist, song, artist etc. The new playlist, song, artist etc will start be playing on that remote spotify connect but controlled by any Echo.

Hey folks,

We’re always working on improving the Spotify experience across platforms, but we’re afraid we don’t have any further information to share at the moment.

We typically don't announce integrations with third parties in advance. The best place to keep an eye on is our blog for news updates about any such partnerships.

Thanks for continuing to share your ideas and give us feedback in our Idea Exchange.

Hey folks! We have some news about controlling your Sonos devices with Amazon Echo. This week, Sonos confirmed their devices are to receive an update that allows users to play music from Spotify on its speakers via Amazon's Alexa voice assistant. The update will be rolling out gradually over the coming weeks, with Google Assistant support to follow in 2018.

This idea is still marked as 'Not Right Now' because we can't comment on third-party partnerships with our Connect partners. Thanks!

Yes I think everyone on this thread knew that Sonos was going to be supported for this and it's no surprise. Point is that appears to be a lucrative and exclusive commercial deal that Spotify don't want to jeapordise. If Spotify connect can allow any device with Spotify to be played to by clicking on it from the app then Alexa can be made to do this easily via an official Spotify skill. In fact, someone had a go at doing this unofficially and their skill basically works it just isn't polished.

What you're saying really Spotify is that you don't want to do it because you'd lose money on your deal with Sonos and they won't sell as many speakers as they'd like. Your powers that be don't see how giving people who haven't got Sonos money the same functionality as them. Just be upfront about it.

I'm not going to buy a Sonos speaker to get this functionality, probably never will. I see what people are asking for in this thread as something value added to the subscription I have that is likely to keep me as a subscriber for a long while as I get into using Alexa for stuff. The fact you don't support this sucks and doesn't make me feel good about staying as a paid subscriber.

Totally agree with the above - this is clearly very easily technically possible, but Spotify don’t want to do it because then they can’t set up exclusive deals.

If I can use my phone app to control Spotify on PS4, then definitely it is possible to use Alexa to control Spotify on PS4/phone/whatever and not hijack the session - they just don’t want to do this. Which is a big shame and honestly really limits how useful the integration with Alexa is (to the point I don’t use it)

This feature is possible with Spotify,  google home and google chromecast. I switched to Google Home from Alexa.

Same.

What about other Spotify clients?  I want to use Amazon Echo to control Spotify on my Mac Mini which is connected to my receiver.  I don't plan to use a bluetooth speaker, but would like to voice control my Livingroom Spotify session.  Is that possible?

Syado
Nope.
