[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Why was this feature removed? There seems to be a shocking lack of communication.

 

I didn't expect an app I have a subscription with would make me regret having auto update switched on...

Literally what is this for?! While driving, I have to unlock my phone and swipe down to skip a song as opposed to just tapping the widget. I have to open the app every time I want to start using Spotify again and it is just overall very inconvenient. I am wondering what we gain from this as Android phones already never get the same benefits as iPhone. I based my homescreen layout around this widget and used it multiple times daily. It may seem like a small inconvenience to some but it was pretty important to me.

19 hours, 2700 votes, multiple news articles, hundreds and hundreds of rightly critical posts from paying customers, many lost subscriptions, free press for competitors... Should already say something. Are you listening Spotify?

This update was a terrible idea, all music apps have a widget because it makes listening to music a more comfortable and pleasant experience while we can engage in other activities. Not having the widget is making me waste my time unlocking my phone whenever I feel like skipping. The widget both in home screen and lock screen have always been useful. I do not see how not having a widget makes it a better experience for us who use the app. Bring the widget back.

So you want to differentiate your product by removing useful features that make it easier to use. Did you talk to your marketing team? Your also by removing the widget your app is also less visible. The widget is a constant reminder thay you exist. I love you Spotify but something in your company culture allows for thoughtless decisions. If Apple music has an Android widget you better be keeping pace matching feature for feature otherwise you'll lose your loyal fans that have been with you from the start.

Maybe you could remove the votes here from the monthly salary of the person that proposed removing the widget. Seems like a stupid idea? Well guess what, removing the widget was even more stupid!

I really can't understand why you would remove something that works so well and provide such great accessibility to users. Just bring it back. Very simple.
