[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Fire right now the genius who decided to remove the widget and bring it back asap.

What nonsense, I use the widget every day.

Many Android users including me didn't pay for Spotify premium without widget. I am a former Google music user, and still hold accounts.

Recently, I listen to music much less only because I don't have widget. I mostly listen to music when I drive, and I don't want to go through the app drawer, find tiny Spotify app icon among 100 other apps, wait for it loading, find playlist, hit play botton, especially before and after work. I just want to press play botton on widget and drive off

I still hold Google music account. even though the playlist has not been updated for ages, it is already replacing Spotify. I can guarantee if you don't bring widget back, You will some Android users.

We are paying for premium accounts, and having a music app that does not have widget is not premt experience at all

I just canceled my subscription. Aug 27 is the last day of my subscription. I will be hoping that the widget reappears on home screen by then, because by the 28th I'll have chosen another streaming service. I believe the masses are speaking to you right now spotify. Learn from snapchat's mistakes. Once a customer leaves your service they are usually unlikely to ever return.

I've never needed/cared to interact with Spotify's community forum. I've always been satisfied... until today when I suddenly lost my widget. I had search to figure why, then trouble myself to communicate to you that removing features is a bad idea. That was the most important element of my homescreen. Please reinstall the feature.

  • Think I'll just cancel my subscription since the widget feature is gone I absolutely hate the notification screen Spotify **bleep** it never works and gets stuck on the screen

So, Spotify decided to remove the home screen widget, which means:

-It automatically became one of the very few music players for Android without a home screen widget, thus making it less convenient than the competitors.

-Not use one of the strong atrributes of Android which is, in fact, widgets.

-Hundreds of thousand users **bleep** off.

-Total confusion for their customers, as it makes no sense to remove a feature that was not affecting negatively the app performance, and after all was optional (you had to do some extra taps in order to enable it).

The whole community can only keep asking why, and Spotify continues to not give a clear justification to remove it.

As if the service becoming progressively more spotty this year wasn't bad enough, now the widget is gone? The notification controls literally don't work, especially if you're playing through another device like Alexa or Google Home. I'm so so disappointed with Spotify and I really don't think the price is worth it anymore.

I don't understand why getting rid of features which are used, except if this is really an issue for futher development.

Plus, no transparency, no warning, no communication to users.

Hats off Spotify... NOT 😞
