[Android Automotive][Radio] Offline Mode

Isn't it annoying when you are driving around in your new car, playing music from Spotify and it suddenly just stops? You are might driving over mountain roads with no internet connection and no radio connection and you are forced to listen to the awkward silence, knowing that you will not get internet connection in at least an hour.

My question is then why doesn't Spotify in Android Automotive (in cars like Polestar 2) have an offline function, just like on the android and iOS phones? I would suggest an idea of implementing offline mode to be able to download music playlists so you don't need to listen to the awkward silence when you have no internet connection to listen to your music. I hope I'm not the only one thinking about this, and I hope there can be a solution for the problem.

I would also like to see this feature. I have a Polestar 2, and especially on trips through rural areas, having the ability to download a few of my playlists to be available without a cellular connection would be a huge quality of life improvement.

It seems like this can't be that hard to implement in Android Automotive since it's already on Android, but no update from the Spotify team since 2021 is a bit troubling.

Spotify, please read the Android Automotive application guidelines:

If applicable, implement offline playback support. Cars with Android Automotive OS are expected to have their own data connectivity, meaning a data plan is included in the cost of the vehicle or paid for by the user. However, cars are also expected to have more variable connectivity than mobile devices.

While it is okay to smartly cache the content expect users to use, we recommend that you let the user change this behavior through your settings activity.

Yesterday, Spotify has released an updated version of the AAOS app. Due to an error in this update, the Spotify app presented itself in regular tablet/phone mode instead of the car-interface. This allowed you to actually download the the music (and even videos) for offline playback. Besides the less driver friendly interface, everything was working flawless! When standing still that is... when you started driving, AAOS locked-down the app because it didn't use the correct profile which allows it to interact with the user while driving.

For the many people who use your service in their Tesla, would you consider allowing an increase in the size of its cache or adding an offline mode. I’m guessing this may take some input from Tesla, but as it stands the intermittent internet service in my area makes Spotify unusable.

EDIT WHY HAVE YOU MOVED THIS COMMENT TO THE ANDROID POST ? TESLA DOES NOT USE ANDROID

Enable to create shared offline lists (via bluetooth or so), so people can add music from their offline lists to play in the car without disabling the map navigation. This is for the situation when you're on the road with friends and you don't have internet signal, so you get limited to the offline songs that are saved on the phone that is connected to the car to broadcast the map. There would be nice if the other friends in the car could add music from their offline lists to play on the queue, without needing to disconnect the phone that is showing the navigation map
