On my iPod I can manually move my songs around that are in my playlist, but I can't do the same on my phone which is what I mostly use. It would be easier to have that option on all devices.
Marked as new idea and changed the title to make it clearer and easier to find via search. 😉
This. Need this to make app worthwhile. Sick of having to go to my PC to rearrange playlists.
This has been a gripe of mine for well over a year now. It's so frustrating. Get it right, Spotify. Or hire me to do it!
I can't believe that it's taking them so long to make this a feature. Seems like a basic requirement.
Yep, such a simple and obvious feature. I use the app 95% of the time so it's very frustrating, when creating a playlist for an event, that I have to add tracks in the order I want them played or just play it on shuffle.
This is the only thing keeping me from going premium. seems elementary. sticking with google all access for now
Just adding my 2cents.
I'm a premium user for nearly two years now. I never use the desktop application; not having the ability to re-order my playlists from my android phone is the only issue I have with Spotify and currently the only reason I would consider moving to another subscription music service.
The latest refresh of the android app is nice, but I was fairly dissappointed to not see what I consider a basic feature of music players added to the application. Nothing in the latest refresh came across as a game-changer for me.
I'm sure there are technical challenges to this; but it seems odd to me that compared to "ancient" players that I've used in the past (WinAmp, windows media player) they easily one-up Spotify on this feature.
Youtube no longer allows playlist re-ordering for android, and if I switch to desktop view I still can't tap the "..." on my device to drag it.
Facebook no longer allows android users to toggle between "most recent" and "most important" items in your interest lists (only the main newsfeed).
Amazon won't allow default sorting of its "wish list" feature, making it all but useless to people not-so-computer literate.
All of these sites have growing numbers of frustrated users complaining about this seemingly simple fix, and none of them have bothered even to give an explanation as to why it's not an option.
SPOTIFY - take this simple step, listen to your community, and become a standout in this area. And if you need help, ask the people at Stitcher how to create a drag option to rearrange a playlist, because their's is impeccable.
This is the one thing that keeps me from relying solely on Spotify for my mobile music player! Add this feature and you have my full commitment !
Hello Spotify,
I am looking to switch to an Android phone. I use spotify for my job as a fitness instructor. It is very important that I am able to move songs around at a drop of dime. I am able to edit my playlist on iOS, but not Android application. This is preventing me from choosing the phone I would like to have. Please enable this feature. It seems so simple. What is the reason that this has not been implemented before? Is there a limitation to the software? As someone who has always recommended spotify to my clients and fellow instructors, I am disappointed that this has not been added. Please consider add this to your next release. I appreciate your time and consideration.
What is the status of this idea? I've been a subscriber for years and almost never use the desktop or web version.
Hard to believe I still can't change the order of tracks in a playlist from the android client without resorting to delete/add tricks.
There are a bunch of UI models - hold-drag with texture mimicking bump-map icons as the drag source, up-down arrows in an "edit playlist" mode, etc... Personally I'd prefer the former but anything would be better than what we have now.
Update after update after update and still not there.
After "Ivy" had linked me a "live" version of a song for no reason, I found the proper version and was able to queue it onto the playlist but can't move it to where I want it to be.
Incidentally at least Spotify playilsts are easier to make and maintain than youtube ones. On there if I want to move a song to a specific position I have to move every single item above it to the bottom of the list in turn.
And I can't cut and paste a load of ids to make a playlist there either. Have to use their stupid interface and enter them one at a time...
The simplest way would be to add an option to the song "Move to.." then you can click on the track you want to insert it before. (It is automatically at the end).
Incidentally an easier way to remove the current song from the playlist and skip to the next one would be appreciated too.
I came here to find out how to arrange my songs on my android and it appears from the comments here that I can't do that as of now. I'm so disappointed! I just upgraded to premium and I thought I'd be able to do that. I am planning on entertaining a lot during the holidays and have spent a lot of time making playlists and now I find I can't rearrange them without spending a lot of time creating new playlists. Really can't believe it, I thought that would be a premium feature. Wow.
I don't want to sound rude but this is pretty pathetic. Spotify is one of the top music apps at this point, now competing with giants like Apple and Google in the music-streaming industry. I'm not sure how you plan on doing that when it takes over months to implement a simple feature like arranging a playlist.
That being said, I'd like to mention that this arrangement feature should not only be applied to playlists, but any list that currently has a sort function.
I've been very against Spotify since it got big in America and you finally added a lot of albums to the point where I think it's worth it. I'm trying Premium now and getting disappointed again. Please, help me like you!
I've been a subscriber for a while now and am begging the powers that be to please provide a way to move tracks around in a playlist on mobile (I'm on android).
99+% of my spotify usage is from an android smartphone. I love computers, am a programmer by trade and have been a hardware hobbyist for going on 30 years now. But there's no way I'm ever going back to listening to music on a PC.
Maybe the idea is: "Hey, there's all this wonderful music you can discover if you use the desktop client or web interface!". Honestly, so what? I love music, have played piano for decades and even have the copyright for a song. I'm in "music discovery mode" at most once a month; usually more like once a quarter.
I can't speak for other people but I switched from Pandora to Spotify for 2 reasons:
The logitech squeezebox also helped since it provides a quick way to listen to music without the hassles of using a computer.
Note that music discovery isn't in that list of 2 reasons. It's a nice feature, I value it, but I don't use it that often. Pandora's music genome project did a pretty good job of recommendations - I don't know if Spotify's is better but it doesn't really matter because Spotify Radio is good enough.
I don't know why this feature was removed. Please bring it back!
i just quit my rhapsody subscription after 10 continuous years. main reason i did it was to join
the family plan offered by spotify. music selection, devices and availability were pretty much the same so non-issues
there. so now im giving this service 25 bones per month (per the long standing request of my kidos) but just realized this service SUCKS!!!!
i CANNOT BELIEVE you do not have the ability to rearrange playlist songs on the fly in the android
mobile app!! i just stumbled on this thread after not being able to figure out how to do it on my phone. FOR CRYING OUT
LOUD THIS FUNCTION SHOULD BE STANDARD. heard nothing but how spotify is the holy grail for the past 3 years
and how it beats every other service. WELL PROVE IT!!!......i agree with above utterly ridiculous
I must be losing it. I thought we now had this feature on Android? I was sure of it. I've not been using Spotify for a little while on my phone and having just checked, the ability to edit the order of a playlist has gone, or it was never there? Giving up. If Spotify are unable to commit to adding basic functionality, perhaps we should re-think our commitments, the ones that take 9.99 per month from our accounts for example.
Can someone fill me in.
Mocq.
Please add this. The player should allow us to drag the songs wherever we like. Google Music has it. Too bad they dont have the songs that I want, which I am sure will improve in a few years. When that happens I am out of here. Spotify has the best collection of songs. But, unfortunately, it also has a really terribad player.

Thanks for this idea, we've given it the "Good idea" status. Keep leaving your comments and feedback here and we'll post here if we have news about rearranging tracks inside a playlist on Android.
