Apple TV Spotify app in desperate need of an update!

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a loyal Spotify user for years and generally love the service across all my devices. However, the Apple TV app for Spotify is a major disappointment.

First and foremost, the app is seriously lacking in features, most notably the lyrics feature. On my phone, iPad, and even my desktop, I can easily follow along with the lyrics to my favorite songs. It’s a great feature that adds a lot to the listening experience, and it’s frustrating that it’s completely absent on the Apple TV app.

Besides missing features, the app itself feels incredibly clunky and outdated. The user interface looks like it hasn’t been updated in years, and navigating through it is a chore. It doesn’t match the sleek, user-friendly design that Spotify has on all other platforms.

Another major issue is the audio quality. On the Apple TV, Spotify just doesn’t sound as good. I’ve tried using Spotify on my Android TV (an LG C1), and the difference is night and day. The audio on the LG C1 is crisp and clear, easily twice as good as what I get from the Apple TV Spotify app. Even Apple Music sounds significantly better on the Apple TV, which makes the poor audio quality of Spotify even more noticeable.

I understand that Spotify and Apple might not be the best of friends right now, but this is something that Spotify definitely needs to look into upgrading. It’s disappointing to see that while all other devices have a modern and fully functional Spotify app, Apple TV users are left with this subpar experience.

Has anyone else experienced these issues with the Apple TV app? Do you think Spotify will ever give it the update it desperately needs? Let’s hope they listen to their users and make some much-needed improvements soon!

Add lyrics! We have been asking for years and this idea has a ton of support. Not really sure why it seems like they are ignoring us.

the apple tv spotify app needs a desperate update

lyrics on all other android devices and even other apple devices are available, and the UI for the apple tv is outdated. I would also like to see Spotify Supremium (Lossless Music) on the apple tv 4K. I'm not asking for dolby atmos but lossless is a really good start.

Oh look, an email about using Spotify Jam on TV - that sounds exciting! Oh wait, it doesn't work if you have an Apple TV like all the other new features announced a year ago. 😞

I agree, the AppleTV app UI is basically useless. I just use my iPhone or iPad to control it and see lyrics. Sucks if you’re listening with others and everyone wants to see the lyrics though. A lot of other very basic features are also missing. Audio quality on my side is very good though. I use a Denon AVR with 7.1 and it sounds excellent.

Agreed! Karaoke night would be game changer if the app was updated.

+1. It can't even do basic stuff like navigating from the current song to the artist of the song...

It's the only app on my Apple TV that has not seen updates for multiple years now.

This company literally has thousands of employees, but their childish refusal to update the Apple TV app to the latest features and functionality of the Android TV app is truly insufferable…

I also agree wholeheartedly, and have an additional complaint/suggestion to add:

I have my AppleTV running through a 5.1 surround sound system, and yes I know not all songs are mixed in an Atmos/surround/spacial mix but it would be nice for at least an option to be able to “brute force” a full to the back speakers in a surround mix, regardless if it’s 5.1, or 7.4.2 system.

right now it will split L C R on the front channels leaving the back of the room feeling quiet and distant from the music, so either the back of the room sounds good and front is too loud or front sounds good and back is too quiet.
