[Desktop] An option to disable automatic updates

Some of us are tired of having these terrible updates forced upon us on desktop. Having the option to use older versions of the software without being forced to update would be extremely useful.

Updated on 2022-06-24

Hey! Looks like your idea is growing up fast and it's amazing! We are going to change its status to 'Good Suggestion' now and we hope it continues being supported by more and more users.
Thanks again for your suggestion. We really appreciate it 🙂

The most recent update is an absolute let down, and I am strongly considering switching platforms.

I pay for premium, and going through a new artists' music I have just discovered is nigh impossible; incredibly clunky and feels like a chore on desktop.

It honestly feels like someone is trying to justify their employment by pushing out an unnecessary update that accomplishes almost nothing except hindering it's users.

I really hate this new so called update. Put it back like it was a few months ago.

Upvoting this - some of us are stuck on older computers for software compatibility reasons and the updates can easily break the app for us.

Maybe I'm not reading the linked idea process right, but shouldn't this be marked as "Good Suggestion" now? (at 50 votes)

... and then "Live Idea" at 180 votes, which means a dev team will actually look at what's written in the suggestion.

@ManMachine Especially suspicious considering there's an idea with only 7 votes that's already under consideration by the dev team.

This is absolutely essential.

The new update is awful, and I'd be willing to bet that most people don't want it, but that is besides the point.

ANY software that includes automatic updates should offer an option to disable them.

I am a premium user and I REALY don't want to cancel my membership, but if I am forced to use the new trash-garbage UI, I might have to.

"Good Suggestion and we're not going to do anything with it!"

I'm currently using an older version of the client, and I've blocked updates on my computers by following instructions found elsewhere on the Internet. Using an older version should be an easily selected option that is provided in the Spotify UI. I'd like to see this even if there was a warning that told me that some (identified) features might be degraded by server-side changes that the client can no longer use.

Absolutely this! The newest update keeps removing the "make public/private" option from the menu and I have to reinstall an older version of Spotify every day (sometimes multiple times a day) because it forces me to update to the bugged version. It's so frustrating! We should also be allowed to choose which version of Spotify to download on the download page so we CAN use a previous version if we so choose.
