[Desktop][Podcasts] Sort by Unplayed/Recently Updated

Currently, the only way to listen to unplayed podcasts on desktop is to open a phone and check the feed there, or check every podcast individually for new content. That's 100% unacceptable, and has been for years.

Give us a podcast view that we can sort / filter by unplayed episodes or recent uploads. If you want to be the industry leader in streaming, you can't ignore table-stakes functionality because of "100 kudos" horsesh*t.

It's 2023 and I can't see recent released podcast episodes on Spotify desktop. I'm a product person myself and can't understand how can that be so difficult? They are either not caring about podcast at all, or they are not doing proper user research / listening to community feedback. Both are bad.

Its almost 2024 and they still have not fixed this. I want to use Spotify for podcasts but every time I try I end up getting frustrated by this issue and go back to another podcast service. Thinking of just switching to Apple Music and Apple podcasts for good.

It's there on the desktop now, in two ways.

Your library, filter by "Podcasts and Shows", then sort by recently updated. It doesn't show the most recent -name- or entry; you have to click on it to see that, but at least you know which podcasts have been most recently updated.

Alternatively and easier, click on "What's new" button in upper right hand corner and filter by "Podcasts and shows". Then you see everything you're used to.

November 2023, and, after more than 3 years, Spotify still refuses to fix this. why?

Kadiannep

I see this hasn't been updated in several years. I'm hoping this will still eventually be resolved. I would like a podcast feed the way that there is in the mobile app. Listening to podcasts on the desktop version is clunky and frustrating as I have to individually look through my shows to find new episodes as opposed to just being able to see a list of what came out today.

jnebo

Kadiannep, it's there on the desktop. Two ways to get there I can see.

Best, because it shows the kind of information you ultimately want:

  • Go to Home
  • Under "Your Shows" to the right click, "Show All"
  • Now in the upper right hand corner click the bell icon (what's new)
  • You can filter by "Podcasts and Shows"

Alternatively I think this works too:

  • Your Library
  • Filter by "Podcasts and Shows"
  • Choose on the right, "Recently Updated".

It unhelpfully shows the "Date Added" which is utterly useless instead of something like, "Recent podcast date/time" or the like. I had to figure that one out. But they are in the order of most recent podcast posted.

chublord said it best in the initial post.  Spotify spent billions to be the leader in podcasts and utterly missed the mark in this fundamental way users listen to podcasts and they should be embarrassed.  This problem should take one day to fix and yet this post is from 2019 and its 2024.  I can't imagine what logic could be used to justify not allowing the user the ability to make this playlist themselves but whatever.   Its clear no one at Spotify is listening

otakejame

Agreed. Theres no way to see the podcasts feed with all episodes of all your podcasts, so you can see what´s new between the podcasts you follow

jnebo

@otakejame - try this, desktop version.

1. Click "Home"

2. Upper right hand corner click the bell icon (what's new)

3. Filter by, "Podcasts and shows"

It seems to automatically sort by most recent, across all podcasts I'm subscribed to. Is that what you were looking for?

otakejame

@jnebo thats exactly what i was looking for. Thankyou
