[Discover] New Releases Section for Followed Artists

Please add a section to the desktop and mobile apps where we can see all of the new releases from the artists we follow. When artists release new music, their fans want a way to find it directly in Spotify without having to rely on social media or elsewhere away from the Spotify app. The Release Radar playlist by Spotify only shows some new releases and then it disappears a week later.

This new section would act as a "feed" and update automatically when a new album from an artist you follow is available on Spotify. Please make the feed have a high display limit so we can go back months and months and for sure won't miss any releases.

For a third party solution check out (PLEASE IMPLEMENT IT LIKE THIS)

The problem with the current "new releases" section is that it doesn't show new releases from artists you follow. It only show the most popular new releases. The only way right now to find new releases is to go to the artist's page and hunt around for the new release or use the Release Radar playlist.

The Release Radar playlist is not what we want. The problem with the Release Radar playlist is that it mixes in suggestions. I want to see followed artists ONLY. And if you check the playlist a week too late, all the songs are GONE.

We need a feed that we can scroll back months and months and months so we can see all the new releases from the artists we follow. We shouldn't have to rush through it and it be gone the next week.

Updated on 2019-10-16

Hi everyone, we've recently reviewed this idea and will keep its status as is for now.

For clarity's sake, here's the relevant section from our previous status update:

"..our teams feel this is currently fulfilled by our Release Radar playlistWith Release Radar, we’re giving you a weekly selection of the newest releases that matter most to you in one convenient playlist. You’ll get all of your new favorite music, without any of the effort that goes into searching for the latest gems."

Unbelievable that this still isn't a feature.

I don't want to be notified of new releases only one time a week.

As a "power user" (if you can call it that) I want to be notified of new music the second it goes up.

"The status on this is still 'Not Right Now' as our teams feel this is currently fulfilled by our Release Radar playlist."

LOL. What a very bad joke... Release Radar is the biggest sh*t I've seen. The dumbest Artificial Intelligence driven algorithms I've ever seen.

And as usual your "team" is still WRONG.  The "Release Radar" is a crappy solution for the end users.  I swear you people don't care at all about your users and only care about the music providors, which is who your stupid release radar playlist benefits most.  You really should hire people who care about your paying customers.  I recently signed up for premium again and now you go and remove the option to play a radio station based on a custom play list.  It might just be time to stop paying Spotify again since you continue to prove that YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS.

The new release playlist is only 20 songs long, does not indicate if the release was a single, EP, or full-length and seems to be targeted at the most popular bands rather than my current listening trends. Please expand and personalize.

I would like to see it add whole albums. Just any new content from the followed artist being concatenated into a new music playlist. I dug through the api because I was going to make my own, but I didn't see anything helpful. Release Radar only adds a few songs, which sucks. I never listen to it. On the 1st of every month I do the tedious task of :

for artist in following_list

if artist.hasNewContent()

    addToNewMusicPlaylist(artist.NewContent)

I do this manually for ~100 artists and this can take up to an hour!!!

As someone that like to listen to new albums not just individual new songs, it would be great to have a filter on the release radar to filter either songs or albums... rather than combine them both...

jungk319

I really hope this happens. I'm literally forced to go on SoundCloud just because release radar is so bad compared to just having a live feed of new releases.

Yes, the interface should be simpler for people to see which are singles
and which are albums... Its also difficult to discover all the new albums
that have been released that week.
rwcoyote

Yeh, the interface in general is very limited to what you have already listened to and apart from the release radar and even then they repeat tracks that were relaesed previously.
