[Discover] New Releases Section for Followed Artists INSTEAD of Release Radar Playlist

This is a follow-up to this idea: New Releases Section for Followed Artists by @MattSuda.

While the original idea currently has over 1,300 votes, Spotify's answer was that the Release Radar playlist meets the need presented. I don't think this is true, and I have doubts that the +1,000 people who voted do, either.

So this new idea is an attempt to gauge the level of support for a true New Releases from Followed Artists section in spite of the existence of the new Release Radar playlist.

We want a feed that:

  • Shows new releases ONLY from the artists we follow, and shows ALL new releases from the artists we follow
  • Shows releases neatly in chronological order, with clear headings showing the full release date (day, month, and year)
  • Neatly presents new releases in the form they were released (i.e., EP's and Albums are shown as such rather than as a list of all songs within them -- or make this a toggle option)
  • Goes back in time as far as possible (preferably all time, to show all releases from our Followed Artists in chronological order)
  • Clearly indicates which releases are new to us since our last visit
  • Has a number badge on the button for the section that tells us if there are new releases since our last visit, and how many
  • Not crucial but nice to have: Can be filtered by time frame, artist, release type (album, EP, single), country, genre, etc.

Hey folks,
We appreciate you coming to the Community, and adding your votes and comments to this newly presented idea.
We're setting this to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement.
If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

We'll continue passing your feedback along to the right teams too.
Thanks

I also want to easily see new releases from artists I actually like (follow). This would be a good feature and I'm surprised it doesn't already exist. Andrew.

Since theres no chance they're ever going to bring back release notifictions & having no idea of when my artists release music, this would be perfect.

Looks like this has been going on for some time - at least six months. I really hope this doesnt get swept under the rug and ignored like the new release bell request.

that is exactly what i'm waiting from a music players.

i'm a new commer and very disapointed about the interface, i don't care about playlist from others people, i wan't to monitor releases from my prefered artists.

How is it Spotify has an endless number of useless playlists, none of which I use, but you can't even aggregate all the new releases from the artists I follow together; or give me an obvious notification that they dropped a new record; something.

Otherwise, what's even the point of following artists??

Hi all,

Because I missed this feature I just made my own web-app for it. Using the spotify API it will show the new releases for the artists you follow. Please try it here: http://www.spotifyradar.com and tell me what you think about it.

Have a good day!

Great!! Another app is https://spotishine.com which creates a playlist (empty by default) but over time new releases will automatically be added to it.

I wish Spotify realized that Release Radar is not the same thing. It misses many new releases from artists I follow.

The new releases playlist is NOT solving the problem your users are having.

Here is the user story for you:

As a casual listener

I want to be able to check out new releases by my followed artists

So that I can make sure that I have not missed any cool new tracks

Added context:

I do not check "new releases", since it has 99% stuff I don't care about.

I do not listen to the "New release radar" playlist, I don't have the time to listen through those tracks every week for the three releases per year I am actually excited about. And it changes every week, so no clue what I missed 7 weeks ago.

I do not check your emails, since to often they have contained irrelevant information (strait to **bleep**). If you only sent them when you had something relevant to say to me, that would be different (oh - a mail from Spotify, I wonder what artist made a new release!).

Suggestion would be to make a timeline with infinite scroll, Just artist name, date, Album/track name, and the link to it. Make it go back to when I started following each respective artist.

Listen to your UX:ers, they prob know and have data on all of the above (or they should have).

I'm having trouble understanding how so many new releases from artists that I follow don't even show up in the master list of New Releases (as opposed to appearing on my Release Radar).  A new Christmas record from a band I follow was released on November 2 and I didn't find out until today, through one of the band's FB posts. It never appeared in the master list, and none of the tracks appeared on my Release Radar. The only way to find it is to go directly to the artist's page.  It's nonsense.
