[Discover] New Releases Section for Followed Artists

Please add a section to the desktop and mobile apps where we can see all of the new releases from the artists we follow. When artists release new music, their fans want a way to find it directly in Spotify without having to rely on social media or elsewhere away from the Spotify app. The Release Radar playlist by Spotify only shows some new releases and then it disappears a week later.

This new section would act as a "feed" and update automatically when a new album from an artist you follow is available on Spotify. Please make the feed have a high display limit so we can go back months and months and for sure won't miss any releases.

For a third party solution check out (PLEASE IMPLEMENT IT LIKE THIS)

The problem with the current "new releases" section is that it doesn't show new releases from artists you follow. It only show the most popular new releases. The only way right now to find new releases is to go to the artist's page and hunt around for the new release or use the Release Radar playlist.

The Release Radar playlist is not what we want. The problem with the Release Radar playlist is that it mixes in suggestions. I want to see followed artists ONLY. And if you check the playlist a week too late, all the songs are GONE.

We need a feed that we can scroll back months and months and months so we can see all the new releases from the artists we follow. We shouldn't have to rush through it and it be gone the next week.

Hi everyone, we've recently reviewed this idea and will keep its status as is for now.

For clarity's sake, here's the relevant section from our previous status update:

"..our teams feel this is currently fulfilled by our Release Radar playlistWith Release Radar, we’re giving you a weekly selection of the newest releases that matter most to you in one convenient playlist. You’ll get all of your new favorite music, without any of the effort that goes into searching for the latest gems."

What happened the like and dislike buttons? I don’t like 80% of the chit in my release radar and it’s always from the same artists I don’t like or follow

Yes! This would be amazing! Us music junkies would greatly appreciate some sort of activity page solely for artists we follow. I feel like this is a no-brainer. Why doesn't spotify make more use of tis feature??

Hmmmm... yeh good idea, although i want a page that just gives me newly
released albums from anyone!

Guide on how to use https://spotifyreleaselist.netlify.app

It works on desktop and mobile browsers

https://spotifyreleaselist.netlify.app is a great web app that uses the Spotify API (login with Spotify) to gather all of the artists you FOLLOW on Spotify and list all of their new releases. You can even create a playlist that saves to your Spotify account with all of the new releases for easy access.

For an easy way to bulk follow artists check out this tool:

https://www.nativenoise.co.za/spotify/follow-all-artists/

All of the data is stored locally in your browser. The web app is safe to use and the source code is here: https://github.com/jakubito/spotify-release-list

TIP if you see lots of spam compilations in your feed: Once the releases are loaded, go to the filter and check the "Exclude Various Artists" box to hide the spam compilations that some labels release that can feature artists you follow. This may also hide soundtrack albums if you are looking for those just FYI.

On iOS (not sure about Android) you can open the site in Safari and add it to your home screen. When you tap the icon from the home screen and open it up, it acts as a standalone app. Tap on a release and it'll open up in the Spotify app.

Pro Tip: https://discoverquickly.com is a great web app on desktop to quickly mouse hover and listen to 30 second snippets of songs if you want to save time when discovering music. It's like the discontinued Touch Preview feature Spotify used to have on iOS but in a website form. You can load in your created new releases playlist from https://spotifyreleaselist.netlify.app by copying the Spotify playlist URI into the search box and quickly discover new music.

Also another great web app: https://www.skiley.net

Thanks... this is really helpful!! Although i want it to do multiple counties... Is that possible?

I could do with something that also tells me the list of ALL music that's released each week, even if i dont follow them?

@rwcoyote

In the settings of that website under "market country" select "all markets" to see releases from all countries or you can select different countries individually one at a time. I prefer to set it to the country I live in because it will show all of the releases I can play. Some music labels release the same album but have a different release for each country so if you have it set to all countries then you might see the same album 5 times or an English version and a foreign language version. And you will see releases that aren't available in your country. Sometimes artists release songs they might only release in a few countries or something which is rare but it happens. That's why I prefer to have it set to my country so that I will only see releases I will be able to play.

At the moment this website only shows new releases from the artists you follow. If you go to the Spotify app, go to browse/search and then click on new releases it will show you the most popular new releases from all artists. Spotify also has a "New Music Friday" playlist with a selection of new releases form a wide variety of artists and genres. You can also check out this site to browse all new releases from all artists by genre each week but it is very overwhelming: http://everynoise.com/new_releases_by_genre.cgi

Of course they update the status of this issue every year with some deflection or excuse that "we feel Release Radar is good enough as we show you only 10 percent of the new music from people you follow instead of letting you see all of it durrr hurr". What an anti-consumer company. Such a nonsense excuse that clearly illustrates they are making more money somehow by having Release Radar in place. Like we can't trust you to consume the music you follow properly comrade so let us do it for you. Cant wait til**bleep** company goes bankrupt

@Davidellenbogen

They must be making most of their money from the record labels, because they sure don't care about their paying customers.

I said it before and will say it again: the solution to this issue is moving to Apple Music. The catalog is basically the same, there are free apps to move your entire library, and the New Releases section is exactly what everyone in this thread is clamoring for.

I would agree, except that I hate the mobile UI of Apple Music,  and as far as I’m aware on PC you are still stuck using iTunes which absolutely sucks.
