[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

This is not the right time for spotify to fumble and drop the ball. Being avant garde and right in front of the pack only means they have been on the playing field longer - but dont treat your fans with contempt

Just adding another voice to the many asking for this possibility. Hard to believe that something with "Good Idea" status in 2012 is still not implemented.

I am currently working at a retail electronics store and wanted to use the spotify features built into some of the newer soundbars to demonstrate them. Unfortunately recording artists today don't have a large enough vocabulary to express their feelings without cursing. I am forced to use Pandora because they have the ability to make the choice between allowing explicit lyrics or not. I am also forced to be honest with my customers when they ask what app I'm using. When Spotify gets this fixed I may be able to promote them again...

I just cancelled my premium subscription for this very reason.  Spotify - I'm sure if you had the option for us to tell you that we cancelled for this very reason, you'd be suprised at how many memberships your actually losing because there's no way for us to protect the little ears of our children when using Spotify.   In fact, I as an adult would love to be able to listen to a play list without the risk of running into explicit lyrics.   I'm shocked that you haven't listened to the countless requests from your users on this note.

Does Donald Trump know that American and world morality is being dictated by international entrepreneurs. He would be great advertising if he chose to disagree with them.

That's it.

I just canceled my permium subscription and moved to Google Music because of this feature.

Bye.

Stay and fight - you dont need to use the service or pay.  GOOD IDEA  status, according to spotify, means that the idea has merit and should be implemented, if only it can gain enough support. Let's make them look really stupid

I have a question - has anyone on this thread signed up for the Family Plan? If so, did it say that family members had to be 13 or more to use Spotify? I am just checking statements on an email I received form Spotify Support.

I would suggest sending emails to support@spotify.com stating that you have tried using the community and that for the last 4 years the ability to block explicit has been kudo'd by 4,747 people and that it has been viewed by 100,000 plus people and received 1,708 New Comments. Or what every you want to say - I would say avoid the following reasons to get kicked off:

Oh, the irony....

What if I say I'm an artist and my comments are art and they have no right to censor my art?

SharonApplin
I agree with all the comments. I love discovering new music but some lyrics just make me cringe. I don't need that unnecessary language in my life. I don't want spotify to censor but give me an option in settings to choose radio edit or skip explicit tracks. Thanks
