[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Would purchase the Family Plan if I could set permissions for the kiddos.

Family plan?  This has nothing to do necessarily with family.  I am 50 years old, and I have a sinlge premium accound, and I don't want to listen to explicit lyrics.  Allowing this feature only for the family plan would be a mistake.

Agreed. I am 28 and also would like the option of controlling what I
listen to. I don't like explicit lyrics. I don't want to listen to them.

So I don't know why Spotify is trying to force this down the throats of
those who would otherwise support their product.

I was actually listening to a kids album playlist anda song with clear, explicit lyrics came on. Lucky kids had left room. Had to just mute til it finished. Not cool spotify!

@Robbo75

You said (on a previous page)

"Oh, the irony.... What if I say I'm an artist and my comments are art and they have no right to censor my art?"

Yes! Brilliant.

We could add hypocrisy to irony, do you think?

The lack of an explicit filter is why I uninstalled Spotify in the past.  I want to like the service but it looks like I will uninstall again.

Robbo75 Thanks for getting it aslo thanks to "saved" for the additional comment.  I personally felt it was the height of hypocrisy  to have the guidelines for us the users be one way and for the company to be a 180 and  supporting the exact opposite. Still do not understand their thinking.

viiii. Always use an appropriate and respectful language when you post information in the Community. I have just found another thread on this subject that I didn't know existed. I have just voted. You might want to too if you haven't already.

Disable Explicit Songs

I wonder how many total kudos this would have accumulated if everyone had voted in the same place (doubtless some have voted in more than one, but not everyone).

OH! Here's another one -

Parental Controls

AND another one -

Explicit Only Edited Only Option

This is getting silly. This one is about enabling us to mark songs as explicit if it's not already tagged as such -

Ability To Mark Songs As Explicit

That's not including the Closed threads and a few strays. At this rate I'm going to get kicked off Spotify, but never mind. It would be worth it.

PS  @888margo888 - thanks for clarifying my comment to Robbo75. I was going to edit it, but got tied up doing this. 😄

On a lighter note we won't need an explicit filter soon. With the increase of explicit material appearing (it seems that Spotify may be a driving force in the growth as it provides a guarantee of exposure of these groups to listeners (even if they are unwilling listeners)., : we will need a filter for NON explicit material to find what is left to listen to. But please, Spotify, ask your expert music curators to at least keep pornography out of the kiddies playlists. Sounds a bit like Duty of Care - a little better than the present Error of Judgement you display.
