[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Spotify, I'm a premium member and I allow my 7 year old son to make choices to develop his own tastes.  I was just cooking in the kitchen and heard swearing on a rap song that he was listening to........Unless I can filter expletives, I won't be able to continue to use spotify😫

I can't listen Spotify around my kids. Why it's taking so long time to add this option?

zaustinz

Please make an option to skip explicit songs in playlists and the radio. It's getting where I can't play any Spotify-generated music around my five year old. I'm close to cancelling my Premium account because of this issue.

I see it's been under considereation for over a year. I think it's time to implement!

Thank you.

This would be huge.  I have had to remove many of my favorite songs from my playlist because I will not share explicit lyrics with children.  This is a MUST HAVE or will not not subscibe for any of the paid Spotified services.  For now, I will continue to use the free service and remove any songs with explicit lyrics from playlists.  However, as soon as another service comes along that will provide this, I will be switching over, as will a large portion of your customers.  Get with it already!  Foolish not to have this.....

Pandora has this feature. I've resorted to that service during working
hours or when I'm in group settings.

It doesn't allow for selection of specific songs, but once you customize a
station with enough likes, it gets the job done.

Not sure why Spotify is so reluctant to implement this feature.  Your users widely want it.  It would not require the censoring of any artists.  The artists already release explicit and clean versions of their music in order to market to different audiences.  This would just allow users the option to indicate which audience they fall under.

I love the service and currently pay for a premium subscription for myself and two family members.  However, your continued recalcitrance towards this feature is making me actively consider other options.

It just doesn't seem completely plausible.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone or anything, but there are a ton of songs out there that are explicit and nobody seems to mark them as explicit. Take for instance, Something's Gotta Give by All Time Low, there is profanity in the song, however, it seems to go unrecognized by the majority of the filters. I love the idea and all, I'm just trying to say that it wouldn't work 100 percent, due to different factors.

How hard could it be! Please get this set up soon I need to listen to my music with out getting anxiety about what song is going to come on next!!!!!!!!

CatchingKeys

Yup I super support this idea. It would be great to be able to just skip those songs when I try listening to playlists that aren't mine as to discover new music. Big thumbs up here!

I actually used Spotify as my DJ for my wedding but it was unfortunate that we allowed anyone to pick songs they wanted to play and they were picking explicit songs, which I did not like. It would have been sweet to have had a feature that just didn't let them play those songs.
