[Music] Import & Export Music

I love my playlists. I've added to my starred playlist for about two years now, and I always wonder what I'd do if my playlists were somehow wiped. So how about something that would rest my mind, the ability to back up your playlists to say, a text file containing all your songs, and then you can import your playlist if it somehow goes missing! This would be an ace feature as I see some people are having issues with duplicate accounts and their playlists being wiped.

This would also making sharing playlists between friends even easier!

TL;DR: Let us export our playlists to a text file, and then import our playlists whenever we like.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange.

We've discussed this idea and while it is interesting, we aren't able to prioritize it and don't have any immediate plans to implement this. We will let you know if this changes in the future.

If we do have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

More info on why your idea has been closed can be found here.

Question is how can we export all playlists for itunes on both mac and windows? That's what I wanna know....

There is an need for an open standard for exportable/importable playlists. If Spotify develops one that is useful it will be a darling.

If not Spotify, someone will do it. It is an inevitability. And I can't wait for it to happen.

There are various workarounds, but direct import of m3u playlists for local files is a no-brainer feature to add.

I read thru the comments but didn't see this obvious option: I went to my spotify playlist, selected a song within the list, then selected "all" (as with any text document), copied it, then pasted it into a plain text file. Done.

Should work with Soundiiz, because you can upload/drag & drop .m3u files there as well. Another one would be PlaylistConverter, UseSpotify and Ivy which can import plain text lists as well as iTunes playlists and CSV files. I admit that I did not test this myself though, but here are the necessary links:

double post, sorry

You can use Soundiiz.com for this as well, it offers a lot of options to export Spotify tracks to different streaming sites if you wish so, or simply create a text file from the clipboard after copying & pasting the content of a Spotify playlist there or rather to Notepad or Excel. For all of you Linux users out there:

I created a script that can parse Spotify URIs and save them as a CSV file.

For everyone else: I found this Chrome extension while working on my script. It didn't work on my machine but it might work on yours. It's certainly worth a try.

I wrote a little webapp that can export playlists into a format you can import into excel:
