Improving Search Autocorrection Feature

Status: Live Idea
0 Likes

I wanted to share some feedback regarding the autocorrection feature in Spotify’s search function. While I understand the intent behind it, I and many other users have found it to be frustrating. Often, when typing just a couple of letters, a song or artist appears, but upon selection, the search term automatically changes to something else. This not only disrupts the experience but also slows down the process of finding music.

Beyond convenience, this issue has a safety aspect as well. While we all know that texting and searching while driving is dangerous, the reality is that many users still do it. An unpredictable search function that forces users to retype or correct their input increases the time they spend looking at their phones. Even a couple of extra seconds of distraction can be critical.

A potential solution could be to make the search autocorrection an optional feature that users can toggle on or off in settings. This way, those who find it helpful can keep it, while others can disable it for a smoother and more precise search experience.

I’ve noticed many users discussing this issue on various Reddit communities, and there seems to be a strong demand for a change. I believe adding this option would significantly enhance the user experience and be greatly appreciated by a large portion of Spotify’s community.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this suggestion. I appreciate the work you do to make Spotify better every day, and I look forward to seeing how the platform continues to evolve.
