I would like to share an innovative idea that could transform the playback and monetization model on the platform, aligning it with current content consumption trends. The proposal is to integrate Spotify songs into short videos, specifically on Instagram Reels, and count those plays within Spotify. However, a key condition is that only artists can use this tool, ensuring that their Instagram account is linked to their Spotify profile and that their distribution is attached to an Instagram profile. Additionally, the Instagram profile must be set as a Musician/Band account to qualify.
1. Boosting Music Discovery Integrating songs into Instagram Reels would allow each play of at least 10 seconds to be recorded as a play on Spotify. This would promote organic music discovery, enabling artists to reach new audiences without relying solely on searches within the app. Since these songs would be accompanied by engaging visual content, they would have a higher chance of generating engagement and a connection with listeners.
2. Monetization Efficiency and Data Synchronization Since these plays would be shorter than a full listen on the platform, Spotify could adjust its payment model, reducing the value per play to 5% or 10% of the current rate. Additionally, to ensure a seamless experience between both platforms, listeners, followers, and saved songs on Spotify would be directly synchronized with the Reel used by the artist. For example, if a Reel gets 5,000 saves on Instagram, the song on Spotify would automatically be saved 5,000 times, ensuring complete and efficient integration between both apps. Moreover, for a play to count, the video’s volume must be at 80% or higher, preventing muted plays from being considered.
Conclusion This proposal would allow Spotify plays to extend beyond the platform, leveraging the massive traffic of Instagram Reels. Instead of implementing an entirely new system within Spotify, this would enable users to share a song in this format, and any play exceeding 10 seconds would be counted as an official play.
This would benefit Spotify by attracting more users and increasing app downloads while providing artists with greater visibility and a new revenue stream tailored to modern music consumption habits.
