[Mobile] Option to customize Your Daily Drive

Just got a playlist called "Your Daily Drive". So far, it's great because it mixes in news-like podcast snippets inbetween suggested songs.

However, it'd be great to mark a podcast as 'do not play again' or 'dislike' so it doesn't show up or similar podcasts don't appear.

It would also like to love/like songs that appear, as well as the ability to complete skip a podcast if its something I'm less interested in. Podcast runs similar to normal podcast, but I feel that this is a different experience (and a catered one), we should have more freedom to skip/like/love/dislike to make this experience improve over time.

Thank you!

Please for the love of god. I’m sure they’re nice people, but I can’t listen to the tboy podcast anymore. I can’t do it. And yet they show up every day. Please give me the option to change this 😭

4 months have passed since I last posted here (15-3-22), and in that post I stated that 5 weeks had gone by without any reaction from Spotify.

Seriously need an option to remove podcasts from my daily drive, and home page, I only want to hear music not annoying people talking, I go to work to hear that. My drive is meant to be relaxing and not interrupted by grating voices that I can't stand. It's great to have if you want it, but you cant even skip it !!!! It's like you're trying to force them on people.

It's over halfway through 2022 and people are still frustrated by the things pointed out in 2019.

*Sigh* I just want to say to everyone who found this post in the same way I did (by googling a major issue) that here's what I've found out:

After skipping past 20+ minute news podcasts when my drive wasn't long enough to accommodate such lengthy podcasts (which was my original complaint that brought me to this thread), I discovered a couple podcasts that I could tolerate and/or enjoy. So I kept giving Daily Drive a chance despite how it still wouldn't play right away in my car EVEN though I would open the app and let it load before I left the wifi in my house.

The next issue became that, as others have already pointed out, it plays the SAME DAMN SONGS without fail no matter what. I've been listening to the same songs in Daily Drive since I started listening to DD daily (instead of just when I remembered DD existed before I had an actual commute to work).

So after getting absolutely road-ragy fed up, I waited til I got home and marked all the songs as Hidden from Playlist. It didn't regenerate music until the day after next, at which time it just added in the rest of the songs it ALWAYS puts in DD (at this point, I'd be excellent at car karaoke with all those tracks from listening to them twice a day minimum for last 3 months).

Day after next of when I hid the songs, the other forever-repeated tracks showed up in DD. I'm going to hide those, too and I'm pretty sure I won't have music at all in DD after that.

I'm not a programmer, but I like to code whenever possible and to keep teaching myself coding languages, and it seems like, somewhere and somehow in Boolean logic there's a way to, for example, randomize music from all user-generated playlists and "Liked Songs" and "music you may like" to add to the music in DD. Ooh! Or wouldn't it be cool if every song had a mean (average) "happy or sad" rating and that rating could be compared to the location weather information for the user and the user can set whether rainy/bad weather days played "happy or sad" songs and if sunny days played happy or sad songs, etc.

I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but bottom line: what am I paying roughly $120 USD a year for when, if I switch to just the mp3s and CDs I own, I can get the same experience (ie, the same damn songs over and over day in and day out AND forced to sit or drive in complete silence if I forget to bring a CD with me as akin to when Spotify isn't stable enough to be functional)?

I see a lot of this comment section is made with complaints, for anyone seeing this, this isn't a complaint, just an addition to the Idea.

Spotify does a great job at creating mixes that they deem relevant to the user. I personally love my mixes, but I am also a general listener where some days I really like to listen to my favorite artists, podcasts, genres, and the like.

What I propose is across all platforms you create a new type of playlist. One where instead of setting exactly which songs and exactly which podcasts we instead build a playlist with parameters.

I will utilize the Daily Drive for Example:
I want to listen to the "It's <Insert day here> and you're listening to spotify" at the very beginning, so in this new playlist I put that sound byte or version of that soundbyte as the first entry. Next, I like news but I prefer News Now over BBC Minute, so for the next entry I put "Podcast: News Now: Newest Episode" then I want to listen to 2 songs, and one that I haven't heard before, so I put "Song: Discover Weekly" this picks a random Discover Weekly song to put at this slot. Then the next one I'm feeling Imagine Dragons so I do "Song: Artist: Imagine Dragons", and it picks any song from Imagine Dragons. This can go on as long as the user wishes putting in a new podcast or song while designating whether they want any song from an artist or genre or mix.

As a developer depending on the system spotify is built on, this could be no easy task, but given all that you have and how great this platform has become over the years, I think it is entirely do-able. Feel free to email me for more info if this gets enough traction.

Thank you for reading!

Please give paying customers the ability to change or even remove Podcast feeds in Daily Drive.

I really enjoy the News ans Music Mix of Daily Drive - but i disagree with the frequency and choice of Podcast.

Actually i would prefer to turn Podcast completly off Inside of Daily Drive.

Why this Option ist still not available for paying customers?

@kindjie and @LilithSaille -

If you don't like podcasts, then don't listen to Daily Drive.  It is created for people who want music and news.  (The problem is, it keeps playing the same songs over day after day, and gives users no influence over which podcasts are included).

There are many other automatic playlists for music only - look to the Daily Mix or Discover Weekly playlists for starters

@Tim: For my Case: i Like short daily news and music - but i dont Like >10 Minutes podcasts...

On my daily ride to work i got my daughter in the car and she likes the Daily Drive music and is used to some news, meaning talking people from time to time... But more than 5 Minutes talking gets her (and me!) bored.

The Daily Mix lists are not the same so far i know - they are curated by Spotify and less reflecting my Taste of music. For example: Daily Mix 1 and 2 are including not more than 2-5 Songs i marked as "Like". These are much more general mainstream lists that i dont like at all.

I (and a Lot Others) don't understand why u simply cant switch Podcasts Off... Couldnt be a big deal - and for those who Like Daily Drive as IT is - there is no need to deactivate podcasts.

Tim_U

85mk7 - again, if you don't like podcasts, you have a ton of options for personalized music playlists.  See:

  • https: //newsroom.spotify.com/2021-03-31/introducing-new-spotify-mixes-personalized-playlists-featuring-your-favorite-artists-genres-and-decades/
  • https: //newsroom.spotify.com/2018-05-18/how-your-daily-mix-just-gets-you/

Or you can create your own playlists or just play your liked songs on random mix if you only want to hear songs that you are familiar with.

Your request for a Daily Drive without any podcasts is analogous to going to the ice cream shop, asking for a brownie sundae without the brownie, and complaining that "brownie sundae without the brownie" is not on the menu, when virtually everything else is exactly that.  Familiarize yourself with the menu before complaining.

It's 3 years you're working on this. Is it happening any time soon?
