[Mobile][Playlists] Bring back number of songs in a playlist

The old mobile interface used to show the number of songs in the playlists section. The updated version has removed this feature, which I find quite useful.

Updated on 2020-08-14

Hey folks,

We appreciate you coming to the Community, and adding your votes and comments to this idea.
We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement.

If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.
Thanks.

Whatever **bleep** removed this in the last update should be fired

Not having this basic option is silly and senseless, I need to know the number of songs in each playlist on the mobile app to create top lists.

Some people want this, some people don’t care, but I don’t think there’s anyone who specifically doesn’t want this and would be any less happy if  it was there.

""No immediate plans to implement"? Translation: "We don't give a **** what our paying customers want, and we'll make horrible, idiotic decisions and drop useful, convenient features whenever we choose." Also, this has nothing to do with "implementing" a new feature - it's about "restoring" one that already exists. Massive distinction.

I canceled my account years ago when the playlist count was pulled, but have been following this thread ever since - for the same reason people gawk at a car crash. Reading these flaccid, canned responses has justified a thousand times over my decision to move on to Apple Music, which I’ve now had longer than I had Spotify. It blows my mind that, FOUR YEARS later, this issue hasn't been resolved - even though restoring playlist counts would probably take all of five minutes to accomplish. Appalling.

Subject: Enhancement Suggestion: Track Number Visibility Across Playlists on All Spotify Platforms

Dear Spotify Team,

I am writing to suggest a new enhancement for your platform. Currently, when a song is shared across multiple playlists, the track number for that song is only displayed within the context of the specific playlist it's being played in.

I propose that Spotify should display the track number of a song across all playlists where it exists, even when navigating between those playlists.

For example:

  • Scenario: "Happy" is track #40 in the "English" playlist and track #200 in the "English Pop" playlist.
  • Current Behavior: When "Happy" is playing in the "English" playlist, its track number within the "English Pop" playlist (i.e., #200) is not visible.
  • Proposed Enhancement: When "Happy" is playing in the "English" playlist, the track number within the "English Pop" playlist (i.e., #200) should be displayed alongside its current track number (#40). This could be implemented as a tooltip, a secondary display within the track information, or another intuitive visual cue.

This enhancement would significantly improve user experience by:

  • Enhanced Navigation: Users could easily identify the song's position within other relevant playlists, allowing for quicker and more intuitive navigation. For instance, if I'm listening to an album and want to quickly find the same song in my "Running" playlist, I can easily see its track number there without having to navigate away.
  • Improved Organization: This feature would provide a more organized and comprehensive view of a song's presence across different playlists. It would help me maintain better mental models of my music library and easily locate songs within specific playlists.
  • Increased Discoverability: Users could more easily discover other playlists containing a song they are currently enjoying. This could lead to the discovery of new playlists and artists within the Spotify ecosystem.

I believe this enhancement would be valuable for all Spotify users, especially those who curate and maintain extensive music libraries, like myself.

I'm a frequent Spotify user and have previously provided feedback that has been successfully implemented by your team. I'm confident that this enhancement would also be well-received by the Spotify community.

I'm encouraged by Spotify's recent strong performance and believe that continuous improvement based on user feedback is key to sustained success.

Thank you for considering this feedback.

Sincerely,
