[Mobile] Remove current Song from Playlist

Hi

This is a usability improvement for the Mobile devices. Sometimes I want to remove songs from a playlist. This is currently quite a long task to perform on the mobile device.

  1. I first have to select the right playlist.
  2. Then I have to locate the song, which is not listed alphabetically. They are listed in the order I built the playlist with the oldest first and newest last. Some of my playlists have up to 900 songs in them and scrolling slowly can be difficult and timeconsuming.
  3. Then click on the "pencil" icon and  delete the track I don't want.

I think it would be a better user experience if we could delete songs as easy as it is to add them to a playlist.

So here's a suggestion for the mobile app, look there's even a space for it on the info page! Smiley LOL

Spotify Delete Track Idea

Cheers

UPDATE 3 June 2017

I have been contacted by user eviljojo22 who has developed a Plugin that creates a playlist named "Remove from Spotify" and every 45 minutes minutes it deletes every song in it and also in every playlist in which that same song appears (which may not be what you want). However, this is an option that may help you before Spotify gets round to providing this very simple function. Good luck (and Thank you EvilJojo22)

UPDATE 7 February 2019

I have been contacted by user bamboony who has developed an android app that might solve the problem in the short term:

They delivered! This feature now exists. Click the three dots while playing a track and select the option "Remove from this Playlist"

Hey folks,

If you'd like to remove the song that's currently playing on Android devices, you can quickly get to it by tapping the title of the playlist (located in the top center of the screen). This will open the playlist and the current song will be highlighted in green. From there, you can tap the three-dot menu and select "Remove from this playlist".

We'll keep this idea open and if there are any updates about adding a remove song button to the menu on the 'Now Playing View' or if we have some news regarding this option on iOS devices, we'll post them here. Remember that you can still add your votes here if this is something you'd like to see in the future.

Thanks!

NOT ON MY ANDROID DEVICE!  What complete **bleep**.  Spotify, oddly enough, is TONE-DEAF...it does not respond to reasonable customer requests at all, even ones that have piled up for years!!!

@src2rsc, read the status update of 2022-07-19 (the one with the 2 screenshots) at the very top of this topic. It gives you an accurate descriptions of the steps to take (on Android, not sure if it is the same on iOS).

So while it does work (on Android), I still can't believe the people at Spotify think this is a good implementation.
Another way to find a song in a playlist (at least on Android), while you're in the playlist itself, pull down and then you'll find a search box at the top of the screen! That's yet another example of UI madness at Spotify: you can't long press to do extra stuff, you can't swip left/right on a song to remove it from a playlist, but you have to pull down to find an otherwise hidden search box. Go figure ...

  •  Since the last update this option/solution has been removed (facepalm), as you can see on the screenshot I have posted. Tapping on the arrow above does not open the playlist, but whatever you had open last in Spotify. Using the three dot menu in the middle right there is an option to see the source (i.e. the playlist), but it will not open the playlist at the song presently playing, but at the very top... Entering the name of the song into the searchbox at the top of the playlist is way too time consuming, since I constantly remove songs.

@BenKingston, what version of the Spotify app and what platform (Android, iPhone, ...) are you talking about? Mine is version 8.8.6.472 on Android 13 and looks different than your screenshot. My description of Dec.12 is still valid in my version.

@Edwin71 First of all thank you for taking the time to reply. I also have Android 13 and Spotify 8.8.6.472. My Spotify (Premium) user interface used to be just like yours (that's how I used to remove songs from my playlists) but changed recently. I simply assumed that it was a recent update that everyone got, but maybe it is an A/B test.

Thank God, back to the original UI:

Still not resolved after 11 years since original submission. Just another example how Spotify treating idea submission. I have tried open another similar complain and they closed it referring to already submitted idea (this one). Thanks a bunch Spotify .....

Why would we even bother to submit ideas?
