[Music] Crossfade when skipping Tracks

Hello, I don't know if idea has been suggested before but I couldn't find anything like it.

So, when you're currently playing an track and suddenly decides to switch song in the middle of it, it gives a very "sharp" transition.

My idea is to, just as the "Crossfade Track" option, to crossfade tracks even if you decide to switch in the middle of the song.

My main "Inspiration?" for this idea is partys. Everyone been through it and it happens pretty much every party. People starting to switch tracks every 10th second and it's just straight out annoying.

I think a crossfade would solve this problem, half-way at least.

Thanks for reading!

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange.

We've discussed this idea and while it is interesting, we aren't able to prioritize it and don't have any immediate plans to implement this. We will let you know if this changes in the future.

If we do have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

More info on why your idea has been closed can be found here.

Give us a crossfade when we want it, Spotify!

In the era of tiktok, our attention spans are short. Sometimes we don't want to listen to the same chorus 3-4 times. Sometimes 2 minutes of a song is all we need before we grow tired and want to jump into the next song; keep the party on its toes! So how about instead of the "skip" button which causes a sharp cutoff into silence, and ruins the vibe, there is an alternative "DJ crossfade" button which crossfades for a pre-determined amount of time (cross-fade length configured in settings: 10s, 15s, 30s, etc.), at any point during the song.

Audience: Parties! People who want to be DJs for the night (aka everyone) but don't want to buy a bunch of decks and pay for a DJ course.

I've seen this idea pop up before and it has been shut down. Why? I say get this going before Apple Music gets there before you 🙂

Additional idea (can be ignored if it's too much): For "Jams" with multiple people, only the "DJ" (primary Jam-maker, person who started the jam) has the ability to do this (sort of like an Admin). This prevents random people hijacking the playlist and cross-fading into different songs.

Noticed my idea was merged with others who have the exact same idea, in this thread. 28 pages of people requesting the same thing. Seems like something a lot of people want!

Hi Spotify

Please reinstate this idea!!

it’s a good one! 1457 likes since it was suggested in 2012 but closed in 2023…let’s put it back on the agenda!

When listening on loudspeakers, pressing the Next button often causes an abrupt stop and start between tracks, which sounds jarring. It would be great if Spotify could apply a short fade-out and fade-in effect (or quick crossfade) when skipping songs manually.

This would make transitions smoother and more pleasant, similar to how the current crossfade works during automatic track changes, but specifically for manual skips.

My post is just combined to here... and this feature has been requested since 2012.... can we have the reason why spotify wont implement this?

QuintonM

Add a feature to enable crossfading at any time when skipping a song and also when seeking within a track. With their own time parameter settings

VOXPOP

I have always been able to jump into the next track later than it's natural start point during the 12 second crossfade

with the crossfade feature remaining intact. Now, for no reason, I can't do this anymore. When, during the crossfade window I jump into the next track at a later start point, it kills the crossfade and creates a hard cut.

What's going on?

I often find when I'm playing a playlist to people, you want to skip to the next track for whatever reason. It would be really useful to have a button that skips to the next track but automatically cross fades or mixes to make it seamless. I do it manually, but this would surely be really useful to many users. Thanks!

It's interesting but sad: Spotify has implemeted the mix feature where you
can create a playlist, visualize Key and BPM, choose mixing points, even
set crossfade by frequency range. A whole new world of possibilities.
But... Nothing to do with a simple crossfade-on-demand. Probably months of
product design and development. Still useless. Lot of friction.

All we need is love, and a crossfade to move to the next song.
