[All Platforms][Music] HiFi Quality - Lossless Streaming 16bit 44.1khz

I've just started a trial of Qobuz - they offer the standard 320kbps as well as lossless FLAC streaming (and high res downloads if you purchase them) the sound quality is noticeably better and on classical it's just wonderful to get all that resolution through your hi-fi or headphones! The catalogue has a way to go to get to Spotify's level, but they are getting there. The iPad app isn't' too bad (the desktop app is in need of an upgrade but I hear they are putting all their efforts into mobile apps right now).

So - lossless streaming - if Qobuz can do it then so can Spotify, they must have the same source - and obviously if you are asking £20 a month then those record labels and distributors take enough notice to make the high res tracks available for streaming. What this all means is soon, very soon, we will get lossless streaming and closely followed by high res downloads - but if Spotify aren't careful it will be Apple who get there first with an audiophile premium offering, and when they do it will be a much harder market place to make money in!

Hey folks,

We know that HiFi quality audio is important to you. We feel the same, and we’re excited to deliver a Spotify HiFi experience to Premium users in the future. But we don’t have timing details to share yet.

We will of course update you here when we can.

Take care.

The last update was over 3 years ago which is really nothing by Spotify standards. Leave it maybe another 5 to 10 years and check again, they just might have posted something.

Like I said here already earlier, I can just recycle that comment:

Im willing to bet that Spotify picked some leap day for the occasion to announce lossless/hi-res streaming. They just need to remind themselves that it will be one of these years: 2024, 2028, 2032, 2036, 2040...

Spotify have repeatedly not stepped up to the plate insisting on going for the lowest common denominator market rather than serving everybody.

I’ve had enough and will be cancelling Spotify and going with a Tidal family hifi account. Can’t afford both and Tidal lossless is hands down a better sound which provides a much more rewarding listen.

Dear Spotify, I’ve been premium user of your app for the last three years. I’ve recently purchased an Audiolab 6000n streamer and I’m in a trial  period with Amazon HD. I really dislike the user environment of this application, but I can really appreciate the sonic differences between the Spotify and the Amazon files (specially the ultra hd). Since Audiolab uses DTS Play-fi, that is very well implemented with Spotify Connect, I still use it for not critic audition (as I do with radio programs). Browsing around I’ve found this community forum and I can see that this a subject boiling since 2014, and is labeled as a Good Idea with around 25000 supporters! Is there any project to give an HD option?
Best regards

That about sums it up!

Always thought Hi-Res was more of an audio snob thing (no offence), but with the recent rise in audio quality in affordable equipment the wish for better streaming options gets more important. Doing a direct comparison between Tidal Hifi and Spotify right now using a simple USB-DAC and a pair of low budget monitors (and the same recording). Conclusion is I'm spoiling myself by hearing details and a wider soundstage I've never heard before with Tidal, but also getting annoyed by the harsh sounds that the lower quality Spotify produces. Things like cymbals gets annoying to the ear with acoustic recordings on Spotify. Really like the diverse playlists and compatibility with Spotify, but considering a switch to another provider because of this difference in audio quality which should be the core of any (paid) streaming service.

**bleep**...has this seriously been one of the Top Voted Live Ideas for 6 years? Really speaks for itself when a company ignores fairly obvious requests for literal years.

Meanwhile...I'm waiting for my new DAC/Amp to arrive so I can give Amazon Music HD a try...
