[Music] Tag Music

It'd be awesome to be able to add my own tags to all of my songs in playlists, so I can easily and specifically sort my songs how I like.

Should be a pretty simple tool to implement.

Thanks

Hey Spotify, I’ve got an idea for improving the “Your Library” album filter. It’d be awesome to add labels and filters so I can sort albums into categories like “Owned,” “Wishlist,” or “Explore.” Bonus points if you integrate with Discogs to sync collections and wishlists! It’d make managing my library way easier and could even help improve your recommendations by using those labels in your other propositions (i.e., recommend upcoming concerts, buying music from the artist etc.). Feel free to reach out 🙂

Personal tags would be usuful for the Eurovision song contest fans. I have my playlists ready but I would like to add the name of the country somewhere in the tags (name of the song or artist name)...

Dear Spotify,

I was adding new music to my playlists and I was having a bit of trouble FINDING the playlist I wanna add these songs to. As someone who has quite a lot of playlists and likes to give them unique names, I often struggle to find the right one.

To get to my idea, I think it would greatly enhance users' experience if there was a feature to connect different emotions to different playlists.

Something like, 'Happy' 'Calm' 'Sad' 'Summer' 'Cozy'. Beside a couple of standard options, leave the option for users to add their own customised moods.

In every playlist you then are able to add a mood/emotion, and when in the 'adding song to playlist' screen, these filters show at the top of the screen so you can VERY easily find the playlist you are looking for.

Also when in your library, you can also easily use this filter option depending on what mood you are in, which makes those sad music hours so much better, and those hype time upbeat moments way more energetic without having to pause to find your good playlist!

I truly believe this will improve everyone's experience, and I sincerely hope this reaches you!! Hope you agree with my idea.

Kind regards,

Levon

Users should be able to add up to 5 custom tags to any song in their library to help them categorize and find music in whatever terms make sense to them—whether it’s a mood, a sensation, a place, a memory, a person, a flavor…you name it.

Then when the user smokes a little bowl and gets in the shower and wants to feel wavy, they can hear all the songs that make them feel wavy.

Users’ tags for songs or playlists could be kept private if they choose, but Spotify would be able to compile all the top tags users submit for a song and add them to worldwide search terms and public song descriptions.

Hashtags are a great way to experience a greater variety of music that's linked to a hashtag. It's already working when one uses the discover something new function.

Yet, when you've a hashtag with various nice songs linked under it one can only start a radio playing from each of those songs.

I'd like to be able to also start simply a feed playing music with that particular hashtag. It would simply increase the functionality of those Hashtags. Ideally one would simply go to the selected hashtag and has as first suggestion "Playlist with #...".

Please consider this to experience an even greater variety of music. Thanks.

This doesn't really fit here(https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Music-Tag-Music/idc-p/6850080#M314829)

though it's been moved here by the moderator. Please reconsider moving somewhere else or as a new idea.

Add a feature where the user can click a location pin icon and enter a location associated with that song that is personal and individualized to them. It is private so only they can see the location associated with that song.

The issue is the songs I play at work vs. by myself vary but since I spend most listening hours in the office my curated playlists heavily favor my office-friendly music. Majority of my curated playlists have been taken over by what is played at work and it's frustrating when I play discover weekly at home and it's just the artists that are office-friendly.

The recommendation is implementing tags that I can put on a song to let the algorithm know where I am situationally so in the future I can ask for curated playlists with an emphasis on the work/cooking/party/date tags.

Hey Spotify Team & Community,

I’ve got an idea that could take playlist organization and playback to the next level.
What if we could add custom tags (or “flags”) to songs inside our playlists?

Let me explain:
I have one big playlist with all my favorite tracks, but the mood, genre, or vibe can vary a lot. Sometimes I want to listen only to a specific kind of music—like sad Italian trap, or just my hype running songs (maybe tagged with a 🚀 emoji).

The idea is:

  • Users can add personalized tags to each song in a playlist (e.g., "sad", "trap", "english", "🚀running", whatever they like).

  • Then, when hitting play, you can filter the playlist by one or more tags to hear only the tracks that match your current mood or situation.

It would be a game-changer for big playlists and mood-based listening.
Basically: a smart, flexible way to control what you hear, without needing to create a million playlists.

Would love to hear what others think!
Thanks 🙌
