[Music] Tag Music

It'd be awesome to be able to add my own tags to all of my songs in playlists, so I can easily and specifically sort my songs how I like.

Should be a pretty simple tool to implement.

Thanks

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Community, and adding your vote to this idea!

We're keeping this idea as 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Thanks.

I agree that boolean operators used with tags, in more or less complex arrangements, to select what to play would be of great value for the users.
Hopeffuly Spotify dev team will implement it, even if based on playlists, that now can be seen as a sort of tags.
Playlists are already possible to organize hierarchically, but that doesn't allow to do what you described. Anyway one can use multiple tags, instead of a tag combination separated with slashes.
Eventually Spotify may decide to progressively change the UI, so that we start feeling it less playlistish and more tagish.

Furthemore, this change in the last update also helps me saving a lot of time, when sorting the new songs that I automatically add via Shazam or SoundHound.

With a simple mouse movement I can quickly check whether a song is already with some playlists (tags) and adjust if/as needed, instead of a boring manual search across several or many playlists. Amazing!!

Unfortunately Spotify took more than 5 years to touch this, and even so, didn't provide any recent feedback here regarding their intentions.

Song tagging would also help artists, companies and users.

I think this is the single most important development that coiuld be done currently.

I think Spotify should listen to their users, *before* they stop being Spotify users...

Check out TagATrack! It lets you add tags to songs and then filter and search based on those tags! You can apply a bunch of tags to any individual song, and then later find all the songs that match those tags. For example, say you have some "Christmas" music, and some of them are "Instrumental" and others are "Vocal". And some separate set of those Christmas songs are "Jazzy" and still others are "Oldies". You can add all those tags to the songs as appropriate and then later find songs that are "Jazzy Instrumental Christmas" songs, or "Vocal Oldies Christmas" songs, or whatever you want!

You can check it out at https://tagatrack.com

Disclosure: I'm the creator of TagATrack 😇

Great to hear rikverstraete! Unfortunately, we're still waiting for approval from Spotify to allow open access, so you won't be able to access it just yet. If you sign up for the mailing list on the site, though, we can let you know as soon as it's ready! 🤗

Mark the location and date of when songs were downloaded or added to 'liked songs', so you can search at a later date and see all of the music which reminded you of a specific location or holiday grouped together.

I know a dedicated playlist could be made, but if it is just the odd song every now and then (e.g. like when visiting friends, or in a bar), it would be nice if you could look back after a few years to remind you of certain trips or places.

One of the biggest struggle I face in Spotify is to pick music among my collection, I often end up listening to the same few groups of songs.

Using playlists, albums and liked lists creates a separation between contents: if I create a playlist, it won't contain or will contain few of my liked songs, as well as it won't make much sense to add liked songs into playlists.

It is also rationally wrong to separate liked from playlists, since it is quite obvious that I will like music in a playlist as well as the music in my liked.

My idea is to add a further tag named songs, which lists all songs from liked, albums, playlists so that I can for example and most of all, start a shuffle from all of my music collection. That would be great if it could be also possible to limit the song list to liked and albums, or liked and playlists. It would make enjoying my music much easier.

I (along with some friends) have noticed that many country songs are exclusively labeled under sub-genres like contemporary country, outlaw country, Oklahoma country, etc. While these specific labels work well for personalized recommendations, they present an issue with Spotify Wrapped. A song labeled "contemporary country," for example, doesn’t also count as "country"—even though it’s part of that broader genre.

This becomes noticeable in Wrapped, where broader categories like "rap" or "adult standards" consistently appear as top genres, but highly segmented genres like country rarely do. This uneven weighting means that although my primary music preference is country, it rarely shows up as a top genre on Wrapped unless I avoid listening to other genres.

A simple solution would be for songs within a sub-genre to also count toward their broader genre. This would give a more accurate summary of a listener’s overall tastes, especially for genres which have a rich diversity in sub-styles.

I really enjoy the moods filter at the top of my likes playlist and I wish I could manually assign a “mood” or a tag to a song and it would filter the songs that I have it to. Then in my search bar I could search #sad and every song I gave that too will populate.

I need to be able to label/tag my (radio)playlists so I can filter my thousands of likes on genre/mood/tag.
