Option to disable auto connect and play

Hello,

I was writing to ask for an additional option in settings to prevent Spotify from automatically playing when it recognizes / connects to any bluetooth device.

In my car, when trying to hear driving instructions, Spotify opened itself and began playing. I had to continuously close it (4-5 times) which was creating a driving hazard. Also it begins playing immediately each time i start my car, which has just become annoying.

When using my phone, I'll be watching a video and decide I want to hear the sound. I pop in my headphones and immediately Spotify initiates itself and begins playing, instead of the active app I'd like to be listening to.

Sorry for complaining, but it has just become too annoying. Otherwise, really enjoy the app.

Thank you!

This ist extremely annoying. I regularly play music or audio books for my kids in their speaker for bedtime and as soon as headphones are connected to my phone, playback switches to them. It frankly drives me insane, there should at least bei an option to turn this behavior off.

The devices list should have a button for each device to turn on/off auto switching so that device can only be manually be selected for playback, and can no longer auto divert music by that device turning on or coming in to range.

So I can disable devices, which I take calls on, from getting blasted with house / office music. Which ruins calls, breaks jams, stops music, interferes with Sonos etc and is generally irritating.

This behavior has never once been what I want Spotify to do. Every time it happens it's an inconvenience ranging from annoying to making me pull my car over to deal with it.  Automatic actions are great as long as I can choose whether it should be enabled or not. Forcing an automatic action on users just creates a terrible user experience. I'm honestly surprised the product owner allowed this to go out live as is.

Also really annoying with this is that my main playback device at home is my Windows computer. When the only thing it's doing is playing music and the app automatically switches from it, my computer (appropriately) goes into sleep mode, so I can't switch back without going through a whole process!

Honestly, the best solution would be to bring up a prompt or notification, "new device detected, do you want to switch to {device name/description}", and then timing out/doing nothing if there's no response.

this issue has been submitted by multiple users and yet has not been resolved! when you connect your car speakers to your phone's bluetooth, then switch to the Spotify app, the music starts playing automatically. please fix this! my stereo device is JVC

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS GUYS! When I get in my car spotify starts playing something different to what was left playing beforehand. It's so so annoying. I have a playlist qued at home and then it's all gone and I have to set things up again. Or when i'm out at work in and out of my car all day I am constantly setting up playlists. This didn't used to happen. Please stop letting spotify play random things for me when I'm half way through something.

Hello, I have had a very similar issue ever since I began using Spotify, which I really love 😍 BTW. My wife and I have a shared account and often listen to music in our home via Spotify through our Russound system. We initiate playing Spotify on one of our Apple devices, usually by one of the two iPads we have, or at times by an iPhone 15Pro or a MacBook. That works really well and we can play Spotify on one of many zones in our home all controlled by one, or more, of the Apple devices using bluetooth.

The problem happens when one of us leaves the house and starts either one of our vehicles, Spotify follows us and starts playing in the vehicle and stops playing in the house. Obviously there should be a switch in Spotify that allows users to decide what they want to have happen. In our case we want to continue to play Spotify in our home and possibly choose to listen to Spotify in the vehicle or not.

A similar problem occurs if I want to make a phone call with my iPhone when listening to Spotify in our home. As soon as I put my Apple Airpods in my ears Spotify begins playing in the Airpods and quits in our home. Again, there should be a way to choose  how Spotify behaves here. When I am making a phone call I do not want to automatically be switched to Spotify playing in my Airpods, this should be my choice.

Thank you for considering making this issue a priority fix. I see many discussions online with very similar comments/concerns so I believe this will be a well supported update!
