Option to disable auto connect and play

Hello,

I was writing to ask for an additional option in settings to prevent Spotify from automatically playing when it recognizes / connects to any bluetooth device.

In my car, when trying to hear driving instructions, Spotify opened itself and began playing. I had to continuously close it (4-5 times) which was creating a driving hazard. Also it begins playing immediately each time i start my car, which has just become annoying.

When using my phone, I'll be watching a video and decide I want to hear the sound. I pop in my headphones and immediately Spotify initiates itself and begins playing, instead of the active app I'd like to be listening to.

Sorry for complaining, but it has just become too annoying. Otherwise, really enjoy the app.

Thank you!

Plase add this. Its too frustrating when it auto-switches between devices. Too many users hate this and we still cannot disable it.

Enough is enough.

If I pause my music and leave Spotify open on my Mac, it'll steal my AIrpods if I go off and listen to an audiobook or podcast as I walk in or around my house. I can fix it by killing Spotify on my Mac, which I forget to do all the time and is super irritating to have to come back to my idle Mac.

Spotify, pleeeeease make a bug fix adding some code saying "If Spotify is paused, don't auto connect to bluetooth devices"

I switched from Youtube Music months ago and find Spotify superior in every way except for this one bug that's driving me nuts.

I can't find anything in settings that's very helpful and don't want to totally kill auto switching between my devices. I do like that I can play Spotify on my phone and control that with my Mac, that plays nice if I'm going between my laptop and other stuff outside or in the house with my phone. It's that kind of seamless behaviour I'm looking for if I switch to a podcast outside of Spotify.

Thanks for your attention on this!

When you listen to music on your cell phone with Bluetooth headphones connected, then switch the output to your computer and turn off the Bluetooth device, Spotify automatically switches to your cell phone. Very annoying!

Toda vez que desligo o carro o app fecha, início app de música porque desejo ouvir música. Porque tenho que dar play? No carro o play é pequeno. Acho que abriu app assim que possível já comece a tocar.

I am at my wits end with this assanine "feature".  When it causes one of us to crash our car and sue your ass maybe then you'll listen. Why not fix now instead...?

@Hendrixius makes a good point that this could be a legal liability.

This request is not for a new feature.  It is a request for Spotify to stop *actively" taking over bluetooth devices, and blaring music, when it was never requested, the play button was never pressed, and the user took no action to request Spotify to start.

I also have been badly startled in the car when the music suddenly started playing at very high volume, all by itself.

And Spotify cannot claim that they were unaware of the problem.  As I have mentioned elsewhere, both Samsung Music and Youtube Music understand this is a serious problem and solved it years ago.  They have a setting "Allow external devices to resume playback" that can be turned off.  Just like in this video: https://youtu.be/sAaDWu_2Yr4?si=Kx9CXoA_6YIA9Uam

I hope Spotify is reading these threads, and understand that users find Spotify hijacking bluetooth devices, including with safety issues in vehicles, is perceived as unnecessary, and actively hostile.  And please, implement the same fix as Samsung Music and Youtube music.  Here is hoping!

I'm about ready to go all in on youtube music. Spotify ignoring this request for almost two years is really bad.

Honestly this is SO frustrating. I connect to my Google Home and let music play. If my phone rings, I pop my Airpods in and the call will go to my watch but Spotify plays through my Airpods. Then, I can't get Spotify to connect to my Google Home again.

And if I hop in my car, it will stay connected to the Google Home the entire time.

The bottom line is that the intent is good, but execution is not functioning as expected. This feature is clunky. PLEASE provide the option to disable this feature.

*updated - chatted with support and the way to get it to stop for airpods was to turn off "automatic ear detection". This helps for some cases but I still do not want this feature at all.

I'm sitting at home listening to Spotify on my computer. My wife goes outside and starts the car. It so happens that my phone was connected to the car last. All of the sudden my music stops and starts playing for my wife in the car, even though my phone is still at my desk with me (and it wasn't playing any music). Super annoying! Please give us a way to turn this off!
