[Other] Bookmark audio books and separate them from music

Please implement bookmarks for audio books and separate them from music.

________________________

There was an idea for bookmarks in audio books. Sadly it was closed, because one half of the idea (save the position in podcasts) has been implemented, even though nearly all of the 30 pages was about people wanting this for audio books.

As the moderator posted "If you'd like to see the same behaviour for audio books, we'd recommend making a new Community Idea for this.", so this is it.

There are many other audio book bookmarks requests, but they were all closed as duplicates because of the now closed idea.

As an additional aspect to this, please ensure a separate handling / tagging of audio books and music. When alternating between listening to audio books and music the Spotify engine starts putting book chapters in your recommendation playlists, which doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

01/2023: It's astonishing that Spotify keeps steadfast in ignoring this simple and annoying issue. Getting a best of 2022 list with chapters of audio books still isn't a good idea.

Hey folks,

We appreciate you coming to the Community, and adding your votes and comments to this idea.

We're setting this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement.
If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Thanks

Without this Bookmark feature, the Spotify App is totaly useless for Audiobooks.

What happened with the 1000 votes from the initial idea?

Did you really reset them to zero because a part of it was implemented?

Please be fair and increase the number of votes!

Thank you.

Of course they're not set to zero. Quite the opposite - they're a beacon of light, showcasing how Spotify follows up on a topic close to the heart of many customers.

They obviously only got around to doing half of the job, but hey - better than nothing, right? 😉

Olilili

When closing old ones they should be deleted, I needed to read the whole history of request until I found this.

If you include all ideas that want this feature implemented, this is an idea with 2235 votes!

So, WHY isn't this being implemented? The feature is apparently already there for podcasts, so technically shouldn't be that difficult. Is there some partnership with audible that you agreed to not encroach on their market or what? At least be honest with your users about why you are not implementing this.

Seems like Spotify enjoys wasting money on paying license fees for audiobooks people can't really listen to because the functionality is cr... not existent.

Also, for the sake of it, wth is the sleep timer!?

Sleep timer and following bookmark!

Can't be so hard, I've had an audiobook app for YEARS that can do that and it cost me 2 bucks.

Appalling, Spotify, quite appaling.

I also need this feature urgently. Especially when you have an audiobook with a huge title. And the chapter number comes at the end of the title so you can’t even see the number on a smartphone display. Then you wait for the title to scroll towards the end so you can fully read it. Because the scrolling speed is so slow; before you see the chapter number, the screen turns off! This is annoying and forces me to count(!) all the chapters to know where to resume when I come back next time.

I assume in Spotify there is no technical difference between an audiobook and a music album. Both are “albums”. Except one belongs to a category let’s say “Rock” and the other belongs to “Audiobook”.

Therefore this feature might be a feature for all albums. Should this feature request maybe renamed to “bookmarks for albums”?

Spotify could ask “return where you left off?” when we come back to listen to an album. Obviously this only makes sense of you didn’t listen to the album in shuffle mode. A second play button could help here. At the top you always find the button to shuffle-play your music. Here it could show a second button for a bookmark-play-mode that actively saves your last position in the album.

I tried to get an update on the state of this idea from the support chat and got:

Thanks for sending this. It seems that this suggestion has been already passed into our tech team. We can't say if or when any specific features will be implemented, but as soon as we’ve got anything to announce we’ll let everyone know over on the Spotify Community 🙂

When I explained in some more detail:

Got it! Nothing to worry, this is all noted, and I'll make sure to let the right folks know about this.

So - nothing really to report, except a glimmer of hope ...

Apperently there is more money to make with podcasts than with audiobooks...
