[Playlists] More Playlist Sorting Options/Columns

Sort options within Spotify are severely lacking.

First, what's lacking outright:

sort by year, total plays, personal playcount, current popularity, genre, tempo, etc.

On top of that, sorting should be stackable, e.g. sort by album by year, or sort artist by total plays, etc.

This could apply to within the artists' pages as well, allowing us to sort through all their songs to better find music that suits our tastes.

Hi folks. Thanks for all your votes and comments. We like this idea, but at the moment we're not planning to do this.

If something should change we'll be sure to come back and provide an update.

I have a custom-made Rock playlist with a thousand tracks on it and want to listen to the tracks by a single artist. Scrolling is cumbersome and there are no hints where I'm at scrolling. And, I've added tracks by the same artist at different points in time so they're out of order.

The easiest way is to open a playlist, pull down and search. However, this doesn't work because after the first track it plays another artist in the playlist and disregards my filtered list. I say filtered list because when I start playing, it highlights the song and plays and then goes the next one (if it's next in the underlying playlist) so it appears to the user that the filtered results are a list.

How can I, on Android, play only songs by an artist or album within a playlist?

I think the answer would be to allow the user to play the tracks in a filtered list as they are shown, or give the user an option to create a new playlist made up up the filtered results.

Screenshot: in this image, it wasn't until the 6th track that I started getting different music with no indication anywhere why it was happening

Prices just went up but you cannot afford to implement this idea.  Use some of the extra revenue!  Come on people!

I want to be able to sort songs in a playlist by most recently added, as opposed to order in which it was added. Would also be nice to sort by most/least played, alphabetically, date of release, most/least played by all Spotify users.

Shouldn’t be difficult from a development standpoint.

Hello @andiena!

I marked your idea as a New Suggestion. Thanks for bringing your feedback to the Spotify Community. I'd recommend checking out this article for more info on how the Ideas Exchange is managed.

Have a nice day 🙂

You already can sort by recently added, and also reverse it (oldest or newest first). You can also sort alphabetically by title, artist, and album, and reverse that as well. These are both on mobile and desktop, with desktop having even more options than these if you click the relevant column, I believe. Most/least played would be great, assuming you mean your personal listen count, but this information is currently not available anywhere on Spotify.

It would be awesome for me to be able to personalize my columns and playlist sorting with information that interests me at the moment: genre, personal playcount, total playcount, first and last personal listening, release year, my songs rating... and, as a bonus, with customizable tags. I'm eagerly looking forward to it! 👀🤞

Why wouldn’t you plan to do any of this?
I remember using free iTunes 20 years ago and had all of the above and so much more?
If I was a Developer at Spotify, l would be so embarrassed.

It’s difficult to imagine what features you have considered and prioritized above these basic library organization.

I have not noticed an upgrade, improvement, or new feature that has been as useful as this request could be.
