[Playlists] Public Playlist Folders

Hi!

I've seen this idea being thrown around before but often closed/inactive, so I thought I'd give it another go. (see here)

The folders feature has been around for quite some time now, and I love the idea of being able to organise my playlists as I do have more than 80 saved (lol).

However, having the folders public to followers would:

1. improve the look of user profiles' playlist tab

  • De-clutter the playlist tabs by being able to group/organise them

2. help followers find playlists better and easier

  • allows users to make more public playlists as it no longer gets lost in the public playlists tab
  • allows users to highlight their current/most popular playlists

This often gets turned down due to lack of likes/votes, so make sure you show so we can finally grab Spotify team's attention and make folders go public! 🙂

Thanks:D

2 and a half years with the Spotify team and still no update ???? Hoping for this very soon!!

Spotify, how about actioning this after several years? Makes perfect sense, I have playlists for every year going back to 1980. I'd like to share 40+ of these, but not individually. Surely this isn't a difficult implementation?

I also think it would be cool if we could add artwork to the folders as well as share them! That way it would be even EASIER for people to discern which folder they’re looking for. And it would be easier for me to find the folder that I want on sight lol.

How is it 2024 and this hasn't been implemented yet..

super disappointed by this. 3 years no update and this seems like it would be a simple fix.

I've seen this idea talked about so many times over the years, but it still doesn't seem to be implemented. As someone with over 100 playlists who uses Spotify daily and enjoys sharing my profile with friends, Spotify would be MUCH easier to navigate if folders were publicly visible!! The feature to create folders should also be added to the mobile app, at the very least.

I wanted to come in to the comments to wish this good idea a happy 6th birthday!  🎂🎁🥳

In 2018, you came in to this world born by an idea that a playlist folder be sharable publicly.  It is an idea backed by popular thought that if you have a container filled with items of value, you can share the container with its contents which makes the container even more valuable because the entity holding the container only has to share it once.

Now that you understand the reason behind your existence, let’s get back to the birthday celebration!   What a milestone!  Six years is quite an accomplishment for an idea to sit at the bottom of a suggestion stack.   When you first started out in this world, technology was barely taking off.   The idea of sharing a folder was inconceivable at the time since it involved editing the characteristics of a container such as “global share”, “group share” and “individual share”.  This is why you were born and adopted by the user base because the users do not have access to the program to make change.   It could be done but it was sophisticated and was only to be performed by skilled people who understood the ramifications of making a container and its contents shareable.   These people are “admins” and hold great untold powers to make change.   They inherently do not trust the non-admin people because non-admin people tend to make mistakes by oversharing with unintended consequences, thereby causing more trouble for the admins than it is worth.

Because of this, the admins did not adopt you.  They did come by for a visit when you were 3 years old.   They said they liked you and would consider adopting you, however 3 more years have passed and….Well….This is hard to say but I will just come out with it: I don’t think the admins will ever adopt you.   I suspect they think you will be too much trouble.   When they came 3 years ago, they saw how messy you were at the table.   They didn’t like the ramifications of what you could be when you grew up.   To be perfectly honest: I don’t think they like you and they will never adopt you.  For that, I am sorry.

But hey!  The user base is still here for you and we think you are outstanding!   We will continue to celebrate your birthdays until the admins either adopt you or….ummm…delete you.   If they delete you, try not to worry.   I have seen it before and it looks painless.   They simply move you to a place called /dev/null which is a quiet, empty place where good ideas and dreams go to sleep…forever in peace.
