[Podcasts] Push Notification for new Episodes

All of us Podcast lovers would definitely welcome a push notifications for new podcast episodes. Please consider!

Hey folks,

 

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

 

We're happy to announce that we've implemented New Episode Notifications and they're now available on iOS and Android mobile devices only.

 

How will New Episode Notifications work?
Starting August 17th, a Push Notification will be sent when a Show that users subscribed to releases a New Episode. Users won’t receive notifications for Episodes that they have already listened to.

 

How do I subscribe to New Episode Notifications?
From mobile, users can subscribe to receive notifications using the Bell icon on the Podcast Show page. If a user hits the Bell, they will automatically Follow the Show too. Users can also subscribe/unsubscribe by navigating to Notification Settings in the Spotify app, and selecting notification Settings, which displays all their followed Shows and subscription status.

Can't see why this basic feature isn't implemented. Staying with Google Podcasts until this is fixed.

I hate not getting notified when the podcasts I follow release a new episode and I don’t know about it!!

It has been a year since the last update to this post, when can we expect this feature??? You have speed settings available for podcasts only, why not push notifications for new episodes? 5 years of waiting?

This feature is working for me now.  I ended up going to each podcast page, tapping "Unfollow" then toggling the "send me notifications" feature off and on.  Not sure if that helped or not.

 

It's not as fast as other podcast apps... I get notifications usually 6 hours to 1 day after the episode is released.

It appears to be working for me now too, and it appears to be part of the latest Spotify update (8.6.26) for iOS that was released a couple of days ago (Nevermind! I just force closed and re-opened the app on another iOS device without updating the app and it still showed up). Now when I hit the "Following" (Unfollow) button for a podcast it asks if I want to unfollow or turn on notifications for new episodes. So it could potentially be iOS specific or account specific at the moment, I'm not sure

 

Thanks for the heads up c_lawlz! I would have taken me much longer to figure out about it myself due to the same severely unhelpful copy-and-paste "fixed performance issues" updates notes with each app release lol

Please make this possible. Only thing stopping me making this my main podcast app.

Such an important feature/ option.

It's 2021 and I still don't see this feature -- so I mainly listen to podcasts on another platform that notifies me when a new ep is available.

Wohoo FINALLY spotify made the BELL PUSH NOTIFICATION option. Works very well for me. Android Oneplus 6 device btw. And it only took 4+ years.. good god.
