[Podcasts] Push Notification for new Episodes

All of us Podcast lovers would definitely welcome a push notifications for new podcast episodes. Please consider!

Hey folks,

 

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

 

We're happy to announce that we've implemented New Episode Notifications and they're now available on iOS and Android mobile devices only.

 

How will New Episode Notifications work?
Starting August 17th, a Push Notification will be sent when a Show that users subscribed to releases a New Episode. Users won’t receive notifications for Episodes that they have already listened to.

 

How do I subscribe to New Episode Notifications?
From mobile, users can subscribe to receive notifications using the Bell icon on the Podcast Show page. If a user hits the Bell, they will automatically Follow the Show too. Users can also subscribe/unsubscribe by navigating to Notification Settings in the Spotify app, and selecting notification Settings, which displays all their followed Shows and subscription status.

It is ridiculous and borderline hostile that you're poaching podcasts and haven't implemented this basic feature.

while I don’t know when Spotify will implement this, I was part of a beta test for this feature in May! so it looks like they’re working on it

Such a basic feature... it should be a priority now. Every podcast app has it.

Surely it can't take months to implement a notification function. I don't listen to podcasts on Spotify specifically for this reason. I've missed out on so many episodes because of it.

Hi,

 

It's surprising this has taken this long to be implemented. It's pretty standard to have push notifications on everything and mostly people have to turn them off because default is turned on. I will not be switching to Spotify until it has them.

 

We should be able select which podcasts provide notifications for new episodes. Notifications for successful automatic downloads of the new episodes or even next episode in a sequence of podcasts would be nice as well. These things should be able to be toggled on and off.

Still? This still isn't implemented? Yet you can send us notifications about the Michele Obama podcast because we clicked it once yet have no desire to listen to it again? Unbelievable. You guys are turning into the cable television of music streaming. Plugging your ads into your premium service more and more and giving us less and less control. I hate logging into the app and just being greeted with an ad. I pay for the damn service! Give us podcast features we have control over. Don't hijack notifications for your ads.
