[Smart TV] Screensaver on Smart-TV

Hi there!

It would be nice if there was a screensaver available in your app. This seems to be easy improvement and it's been asked multiple times over the years. It appears that community is ignored by the Spotify team despite all the money you make on your users. It's a problem for me not only because of screen burn out on the TV but also pictures on the screen are unneccessary distraction especially for kids while I just would like to listen to the music.

a spotify track on smart tva spotify track on smart tvThis is the typical track (music or podcast) layout displayed on a smart tv.
It's static, "burning" the LED.
Would it be possible to add some kind of feature to turn de screen off
OR
reduce the emission of light
OR
turn on a visualizer
OR
a screen saver.
Thank you!

Very new to Spotify (free three months then back to free and ads) but a little surprised this feature wasn't standard. We've had visualisers since PS1(?). In fact I think Windows 98 (hazy memory from mince pie and wine overdose) and the first mp3 plugins all had them!

I don't want a Spotify screensaver, I just want my Spotify app to not stop my Android TV from starting it's own screensaver.

I thought it's a "cool" company, but it's same evil people like microsoft or apple, so sad 😞

I see that this subject is floating since 2018 hahahah it's been 4 years....

What about this "new" feature???

4 years to add a simple screen saver?

You burned my oled screen!

You are the worst!

With your stupid voting...

Do your job...we do not work for you and this is not an opensource project.

What are you doing with the 10$ i (and so many others) pay each month.

Shame....

More user should switch to service that gives a s*** about its PAYING users.

On the other hand...Aliexpress is always a good option...............

How is this still a gap in functionality? Get an intern to code this up and ship it.

Come on Spotify, let's do this. The value of unblocking screensavers and pleasing your customers is by far greater than any sort of brand lock-in marketing supposed advantage nonsense.

Do we need to wait for Adele to ask?

Hi all,

Spotify is misusing this community board to keep Spotify users in the dark if and when new features will be implemented!

More that 4 years ago users started to request Spotify to update their app with a screensaver option or at least have the app continue to run on your tv after the  screen is manually switched off by the tv controls.

This essential feature is available in all apps (Apple music, YouTube etc) running on my tv, but is mysteriously missing in the Spotify app.

But Spotify does nothing, even if the feature to save energy by blacking the screen is essential in today's energy starving world.

After my request to update the app, several local and international Spotify support people gave the impression to offer help.

But in the end it is all smoke and mirrors.

Nothing is done with the requests and I suggested to escalate this to the highest management levels.

If the next reaction is negative, I will cancel my subscription and go to a competing offering.

For those of us that want to play music without the tv screen switched on.....I found a solution that works for me!

And maybe for you too.

Before I explain the steps to take,  I want you to know which tv and mobile I have installed, in order to make it work:

- tv set is Samsung smart tv (neo qled) with Spotify app standard installed

- mobile is Samsung S10 (latest Android version) with Spotify app installed.

Maybe the steps below work on other tv sets and mobile brands (IOS and Android) as well, but you have to test it yourself.

The secret is to stream the Spotify app from your mobile to your tv and then manually with your tv remote switch off your screen. Eureka!

Steps I took to make it work:

1) Start your tv

2) Start your mobile

3) Stream your mobile screen to your tv.

On my Samsung mobile, I use the "Smart View" function for this to work

4) If you see your mobile screen on your tv, start the Spotify app on your mobile

5) Select a song or playlist and see if the music is played through your tv speakers or connected speakers.

6) With the tv remote go to Settings and swich off the screen. (with my Samsung: Settings/General/Adaptebility/ Screen off)

Simple yes? Not really and a shame that Spotify support did not find it out themselves in 4 years!

Let me know if it works for you, or that you can't make it work if you have the same set as me.

And if you can't make it work? Switch over to another music program that has a simple button on the main screen: Switch Off Screen...

Can there please be this feature made already. The screen is way to bright for me to sleep because of the artwork. Like if it could black screen and the player buttons pop up when you press buttons like while watching Netflix would be great. Dark mode is not enough. I'm tired of waking up to seeing violent Jay's bright white face at 4 am. I would just like to sleep and let my partner listen to his music low.
