[Social] Block Followers

I believe there should be a way to block people that are following you on Spotify. When blocked, the user will automatically unfollow you and will not be able to find you, or view your public playlists.

Blocking should be possible via both username and email address.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Ideas Exchange, and sharing your votes and comments.

We’re pleased to confirm that all users now have the option to block another user on Spotify. With this update, you can actively block another user across desktop and mobile devices, preventing them from being able to see listening activity, public playlists, or view profile pages.

Here’s how it works:

  • When visiting another user’s profile, click on the   (...) button.
  • Select “Block” (or “Block User” on mobile) to block the user whose profile you are viewing.
  • This user will now be blocked and cannot access your page, public playlists or view your listening activity.
  • To unblock a user, click the Unblock option in the same menu.

We're always working hard to provide the best possible Spotify experience in a safe environment.

Protect The Safety of Your Users, Spotify:
"We definitely think this is a strong idea, however it isn't in our current road map."

The previous statement completely neglects how serious and significant public safety issues are for Spotify Users.
Refusing to incorporate a block feature and not allowing users to control their social privacy and visibility is harmful.
Not only does this disregard victims of cyberstalking/cyberharassment, it also leaves them vulnerable online.
The solution to this privacy issue shouldn't come at the expense of Spotify Users having to keep playlists private.
This privacy issue shouldn't force an ultimatum that forces Users affected to limit their social experiences on Spotify.
Spotify Users should feel free to share their listening experiences with their chosen followers confidently and safely.
Not allowing a Spotify User to block a follower can induce anxiety for victims across all abusive spectrums.

The music we listen to, and all the audible content we enjoy is still ultimately a source of information that reflects our presence in real-time, and if an abusive follower is monitoring that content if someone chooses to remain socially visibile while using Spotify, there is intent for abusive followers to analyze that public data to manipulate their victims even further.

I simply do not understand how this is such a monumental issue for Spotify and why this evident safety risk which could easily be modified is still an ongoing problem in 2019. There is no plausible explanation as to why a block command is not implemented into Spotify. Unless the company just doesn't care about the safety of its users.

Create a solution and protect user safety. Thanks.

Es  increíble que aún a Agosto del 2019 sigamos sin poder bloquearnos.

One year later and it is still not possible to block users. 😞

They won't implement this because they think they'll lose too many paying customers who only use Spotify to stalk people.

Come on. How is it not possible to do this?!

This is not a good idea, it's a great idea. The people at Spotify would rather make more money because the more ability they give to users the more their service is used even when it's not for music purposes. Think of all the disgruntled stalkers who would outnumber us if they couldn't watch people from a far. Their complaints and money keep Spotify from adding common sense features to an online service. Another reason to switch music services....in today's age personal information is of high value (including music taste). It catorgorizes people into neatly alligned marketing strategies. Spotify is testing where we think the line is with our persoanl information and how far we're willing to let a company exploit us before cutting ties and moving on. Put up or shut up.

Please make this happen spotify! It cannot be THAT hard for a major company to make such a small change that will make such a big difference in the user experience.

yet another one of the many issues that spotify fails to resolve despite the problems being several years old now. if anyone knows any other good music/streaming apps similar to this one, let me know because i'm honestly sick of this outdated system. at this point i'm convinced that the only thing the staff updates are the ads.

also yes, i have contacted spotify about this issue about a month ago or so, and still no progress has been made. seemed more like an automated response than anything tbh that basically just repeated the "it's a good idea, we'll think about it" statement.
