Spotify & "Song Radio" is Essentially Just an Echo Chamber & Doesn't Breed Discovery

This hasn't always been the case, and I don't know if this has to do with the amount of time I've had my Spotify account or if something about the algorithm has drastically changed - but whenever I start a radio based off a song or artist (which is with the intention to find a NEW artist or NEW music that is related to the song/artist I'm starting the radio off of) it just creates essentially a playlist of music I've been listening to - and not even within the same genre off the song.

I've realized that I haven't found any new artists or any new music, and just continuously listen to the same things over and over again which is quite depressing. The point of the song radio or at least how I use it is to discover new artists that are in the same realm of the artist I'm listening to, and I think you all at Spotify are putting everyone - artist AND listener - at a huge detrimental disadvantage by having it go that way because then there is no discovery for new artists and there is no way for listeners to get into new music without scouring the platform instead of giving good recommendations based off your algorithm. More than anything I want to be able to discover new artists based off song radio, not just hear the same songs I've been listening to. If I wanted to listen to those songs, I would just continue to listen to them. Especially since maybe when I start a song radio off something that is midwest-emo/indie, it'll still play hyperpop/rap in the same playlist which are two completely different genre's and moods.

I have used spotify for years now and I'm satisfied with it's service, although over the time i felt something which i would like Spotify to change.

Spotify always plays a set of songs when you go to song radio and they are always same. It can be improved by like giving different songs everytime and also if we are able to choose the kind of recommendation like familiar or discover or mixed that sort of thing it would be great.

I felt the need for this because I kind of get stuck in some loop of particular songs sometimes and then i have to go on total exploration to get out, also whenever i play a song it's song radio comes up which is same as yesterday and i listen to same songs as yesterday.

So what do you all say? Should this feature be added? I'm in serious need for this...

I no longer can choose a song radio without it defaulting to music I already know and listen to a lot. If I choose a song radio I’d love if it played songs related to that song/artist/genre not just that I already listen to. I no longer get new music when I listen to playlists. They’re all curated to me and my previous listening and it’s boring, frustrating and repetitive.

A problem I face with spotify radios (artist and song) is that it includes a lot of repeat songs from my taste or what I generally listen to. I think daily mixes, which are "Made For You" makes sense to include your taste since they are based off of the user. However, when I want to listen to a radio, I want to explore that genre/artist and often escape my comfort zone.

It would be a cool feature to include a 0-100 scale (maybe in settings) where you can customize how much of your taste to include in radios. At 0, it would be a random assortment of songs that are purely related to the radio. And at 100, it would include your taste as well, which it feels like is already happening. An alternative would simply to make radios just not include the users existing music taste (scale set to 0).

This addresses a problem I have with spotify of wanting to explore new music and genres and exiting my comfort zone.

I am a person that loves new, fresh experiences. However, I found that the songs Spotify recommends me are all the same over and over again, and I'm getting bored. Moreover, the playlists are all based on a common genre or language, which I would say is not diverse or inspiring. I recommend developing a new kind of playlist that is fully random with a mix of user's favorite music genres, languages, etc, and contains mostly the songs the user's never played before.

Not being funny but I've found YouTube music now does this feature so much better. I can actually discover new songs on it related to the song I was listening to but not already songs I have heard.

The Issue:

In the current version of Spotify's recommendation system, users have reported encountering an anomaly after the last song of a playlist finishes playing. Instead of seamlessly transitioning to songs related to the playlist's genre or theme, the system often introduces tracks from entirely different genres. This deviation disrupts the listening experience and leaves users perplexed, as the transition lacks musical coherence.

Impact on User Experience:

The impact of this issue is multifaceted. First, users may feel disconnected from the playlist's intended mood and atmosphere when a song from an unrelated genre unexpectedly plays. Second, it hampers the overall playlist curation process, as users invest time in creating or selecting playlists with a specific theme in mind. Finally, it can lead to frustration and decreased engagement, potentially causing users to explore alternative music platforms.

So, I developed a Recommendation System based on the parameters such as LoudnessMode, Speechiness, Acousticness, Instrumentalness, Liveness, Valence, Tempo so that user can stay long time and enjoy the music.

are the developers of spotify ever gonna do something about this problem, I’m genuinely asking

I think the "echo chamber" might have gotten worse, at least when it comes to the AI DJ, which plays the exact same songs day after day in the same order even. One thing that has never been spot on, is that the width of music that gets played in song radio and similar, is way to wide. I would wish it to more look at genre and style of the song and adhere to that. If playing a thrash metal song I don't want a mellow pop song next, but something other up-tempo metal-sounding, hardcore or whatever. Closer in style at least.

Spotify, please listen to your community.  We need the option to completely turn off the "Made for" playlists and radio and go back to the old version which allowed for true music discovery.  My Spotify use has been dwindling as of late and it is 100% tied to this change in the algorithm.  I've currently testing other platforms to see which operates more like the old spotify.  I'd hate to leave. I'm a premium power user with 10+ years of playlists saved but I no longer enjoy my experience here.

When finding a new artist I want to check the radio for similar artists in that genre. However the radio gets populated with songs I have on heavy rotation in my personal playlists.

Having a setting to hide songs from personal playslist from the Radio playlist would help as well as the algorithm taking more strongly from the "Fans also like" artists rather than songs from genres I already listen to.
