WE NEED PURE SHUFFLE!

As many would have noticed, shuffle mode is not 100% random, as it depends on the popularity of the song, your last listen.

But I believe shuffle mode should be fully random, and then make a new setting called "enhanced shuffle" with those variables.

I absolutely love this app, but the one thing that's keeping it from being my favorite streaming service is this shuffle feature that only plays popular, and replayed songs. it infuriates me that the algorithm doesn't purely represent my/our music, and I desire to just turn off the app when songs constantly repeat.

I just want it to play every song on the playlist ONCE before repeating the same song 3 times in 20 minutes. There has to be a simple ‘click’ to make the songs ORDER ONLY change.

If you don’t fix this me an my family will change to YouTube

I don't like this behavior too. I found a source (https://www.macobserver.com/news/spotify-shuffle-isnt-always-random-heres-how-to-truly-shuffle-your-...) that claims that if you disable automix, it will play random. Gonna try that out myself now

ChrisPine

I tried it, still very much not random on a long playlist, though now it seems to be only playing songs at the end of the playlist (used to only play from the beginning). It's also playing songs that are not in the playlist, but I guess that's something to complain about in another thread?? (I can't see how to turn that off.)

I've been a paying customer for some 15 years, but I am really having a hard time remaining one. What I'm asking for is as basic as it gets. At this point, I feel like I'm the fool for continuing to pay for this.

There is another 'live' idea that is over 4 years old, has over 4000 votes and over 150 pages of comments.

Spotify aka Greedify will not fix this, they haven't in years, I can only assume because the way it is makes them more money.

I moved on to another provider because I wanted proper Shuffle and I didn't want to carry on financing a company that cares nothing for its customers.

“Greedify” oh man how’d you DO THAT???

Please just compute a simple, unweighted permutation of all songs in the playlist.  Or, if you're determined to make shuffling "smart", at least offer it with the opposite weighting: prioritize the songs that in the list that have been the least-often heard instead of the most.

Spotify will not change this, it has been an issue for years and they haven't done anything about it.

I can only guess that whatever programming they've done around this gives them more money. They play whatever they feel will give them higher profits.

Spotify made me start to dislike songs and artists I used to like. Unforgivable for a music provider.

I'm no longer with them, I refuse to pay a company that cares nothing for its customers.

There are other providers out there.

The current shuffle unfortunately overplays the same few songs, making me SICK of the songs I like. I hate this because 99% of the time, they are really good songs and in large playlists, some songs I haven't seen for years!

There should be a setting to be able to play a playlist and not have the same song come up twice before the rest of the songs of the playlist have played at least once. If the user wants to play a specific song that already played, they would select it manually. This would be good for refreshing the playlist, to see if we still like those old songs so we decide if we remove them or not. I had over 1400 songs in my main playlist before i decided to play it entirely without shuffle. Now my playlist is at around 1200 songs.
