[Your Library] Edit track metadata

Apple Music has this neat feature that allows users to edit track metadata for all tracks added to the user's library. This is most useful for putting custom artwork for albums or removing (Deluxe) or (Remastered) tags on albums, and removing parentheses in track titles. This feature is also useful for scrobbling with Last.fm, a feature that is not built into Apple Music. Custom artwork for albums is a popular feature on Apple as fans can use their fan-made artwork in screenshots.

Being able to edit track and album metadata on Spotify would be great for people like me who love to micro-manage their music library.

So I know you can add the album cover to a playlist that you would have but say on a playlist you have some local files that are tracks, can you add the album cover of the album that the songs are from? The pictures I’ve attached might help it make a bit more sense if you seem confused about what I mean, half the time I’m confused about what I say

@BenT0722, download a program/app that's an MP3 tagger, in which you can edit artist, titles, cover art, etc. before putting you files into local files

  • I would like an option on songs not to display the album art. There are some tracks that I enjoy listening to that have album art that is either sexually explicit or depicts images that are graphically violent or repulsive. There are many images that I have come across which have actually been quite offensive or upsetting. I do understand that people have different views on what constitutes offensive/upsetting material which is fine. I would just like the option to turn off or censor some of the album art, the same way that you have given the option to filter out explicit lyrics.

I have seen a number of people complain about this lack of choice in whether or not album art is displayed as it also poses issues regarding album art covers that are not safe for work, or some people simply do not like to see the album art. For me personally, not only would I like not to see graphically violent or explicit images, I also dont want my children to accidentally see them when I play music at home or in the car.

This seems like such a simple feature to add, and would make your service more enjoyable by increasing the customisability to suit more people. You could do it in so many ways such as adding an option in the settings that removes all album art or uses a generic plain image. You could provide an option to blur album art, or removes graphic/explicit album art, or an option that allows customers to blur/remove album art from individual songs (i.e. a hide album art button/flip to generic image button/minimise art button etc.). You could even offer an alternative interface that is simplified and doesnt have album art.

Metadata editing of the Google Play Music streaming library worked so well. I continue to be frustrated that it got taken away from me.

If Spotify implements this (and meets other basic requirements) you'll get a new customer

Edit: I signed onto Spotify solely so I could comment here

Amen. This, and a proper iTunes-like song library, because that also went missing from Spotify now...

Still waiting on an update from 2021. It's the only feature I'm needing and have wanted for years. When will this be implemented?

Hello! I hope this message finds you well. First and foremost, I would like to say that this idea is not so unique because a lot of fellow users have commented about this previously across social medias.

These past few years, many artists have released alternative cover-art of their newest release - take Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande for instance, with both "1989 (Taylor's Version)" and "Eternal Sunshine" -, but that never gets fully translated to the Spotify platform unless the release contains an exclusive track the artist choose to release digitally, which I find a missed opportunity since Spotify has done a lot to create a more personalized to users experience.

I personally think many people would use the feature of changing the album cover of their liking if they are official alternative versions related to said album. It'd bring a fresh uniqueness that definitely would change the way we listen the music we love.

Please, please, please, please, please create this option. There are so many amazing artists whose music is amazing and deserving of consumption and support but whose bodies I'd rather not see or who use other people's bodies as art that I'd rather not see. Please help us!! Beyonce's new album is coming out soon! Time is of the essence!!
