[Your Music] Creating "Collections" of Albums

I have an idea that could make using Spotify better for people who put a lot of effort into managing their music libraries (and for everyone else as well).

Collections menu in Your LibraryCollections menu in Your Library

The idea is simple: Being able to create collections or lists of whole albums. Of course you could just add albums to regular playlists but then it just adds the songs separately, which is messy, so you can't easily see which or how many albums are there in the list or checking if there are missing songs.

You can add and remove whole albums to collections, much like songs to playlistsYou can add and remove whole albums to collections, much like songs to playlists

By having album collections we could easily see which albums are added to them and it would make it quicker to select certain albums for downloading by toggling the download button of a collection containing them. We could also re-order the list of albums quicker than re-ordering a simple playlist of consecutive albums broken down to songs.

This would also make it possible to listen to certain albums in a specific or even random order without having to add every album to the queue one by one.

You can download/un-download every album in the collection with one tap, you can also either play the albums in order or shuffle them, or even shuffle all songs within the albumsYou can download/un-download every album in the collection with one tap, you can also either play the albums in order or shuffle them, or even shuffle all songs within the albumsAdding or removing albums from collectionsAdding or removing albums from collections

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Community, and adding your vote to this idea!

We're marking this idea as 'Not Right Now' for the time being, as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts, and we'll continue to pass these along to the right teams.

If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Thanks.

I have found a rather good way of organizing my albums via folders (1 folder = My Records; then 1 folder per artist, ordered alphabetically).  I turn the albums I want to save into a new playlist, then drag this playlist to the applicable artist folder. Bit of work, but the result is satisfying.  A big plus: you can remove songs from playlists, allowing you to 'optimize' your albums! 🙂

By the way, this 'exercise' makes clear that by far not everything is on spotify ...

Album collections is a fundamental really - Spotify is just a confusing mess otherwise. Any chance of this being a priority? Don't want to mix up my Jazz with my Scottish folk. Though that sounds like a good genre!

Please! Album collections!

Why wouldn’t it be provided? Spotify should explain.

The reluctance Spotify shows to providing Album Collections is unfathomable: it’s such a fundamental feature.

This is a cool idea; I would totally be able to use this. Unfortunately for everyone, Spotify has put this great idea on the backburner to instead push through their "idea" which is the exact opposite of organizing into collections. The method is called scrambling, yes just like scrambling eggs! First you collect albums that you like, or even save just a few songs from an album you like, and then Spotify scrambles them all into the "Liked Songs" folder. For added effect, some albums fall into a limbo state called "recommended albums" so that you can sort through a scramble of albums to find the select songs you liked from albums you didn't "like." Clear as mud?

Had a way of solving this, though have since moved to Tidal anyway....

Select a new playlist, then out the first song of each album you want into the playlist. Then you can simply go to the album for each song and you effectively have a folder of albums...

Spotify is pretty average I think. The sound quality of Tidal is so much better. Will keep Spotify for the kids!

This has to happen!

WISH this was a feature. It's been a drag since the day I joined Spotify that all music styles are lumped together in one big album list. There's clearly some internal reason Spotify is against Album orginization... can't imagine why.

Please, Spotify, instigate something like this.  I would like to be able sort my albums into folders.  A big long alphabetical list of hundreds of various albums is to cumbersome to navigate!
