[Your Music] Creating "Collections" of Albums

I have an idea that could make using Spotify better for people who put a lot of effort into managing their music libraries (and for everyone else as well).

Collections menu in Your LibraryCollections menu in Your Library

The idea is simple: Being able to create collections or lists of whole albums. Of course you could just add albums to regular playlists but then it just adds the songs separately, which is messy, so you can't easily see which or how many albums are there in the list or checking if there are missing songs.

You can add and remove whole albums to collections, much like songs to playlistsYou can add and remove whole albums to collections, much like songs to playlists

By having album collections we could easily see which albums are added to them and it would make it quicker to select certain albums for downloading by toggling the download button of a collection containing them. We could also re-order the list of albums quicker than re-ordering a simple playlist of consecutive albums broken down to songs.

This would also make it possible to listen to certain albums in a specific or even random order without having to add every album to the queue one by one.

You can download/un-download every album in the collection with one tap, you can also either play the albums in order or shuffle them, or even shuffle all songs within the albumsYou can download/un-download every album in the collection with one tap, you can also either play the albums in order or shuffle them, or even shuffle all songs within the albumsAdding or removing albums from collectionsAdding or removing albums from collections

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Community, and adding your vote to this idea!

We're marking this idea as 'Not Right Now' for the time being, as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts, and we'll continue to pass these along to the right teams.

If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Thanks.

I have been dreaming of this feature for literal years. I just came here and made an account specifically to post this very thing. This is the thing that has me missing my physical CD shelf so much. Playlists simply don't cut it sometimes. Please implement this feature, it would be a HUGE improvement and incredibly competitive to separate Spotify from other streaming platforms.

Please add the ability to organize favorite albums into folders.   For example, to put all my Rolling Stones favorite albums into a folder, or my favorite party albums into a folder.

I feel like a community member could just create these playlists and then we as a community all copy them.

I've got kinda a Rolling Stone top 500 albums old school wannabe hipster thing going that would load an iPod with awesome but **bleep** if I know!

Well, Spotify, if you're looking for a way to stay competitive (and quite frankly, looking at your profit margins, that's what you really should be focussing on now, shouldn't you??) it would be high time to implement this feature mucho prompto! Your customers have been begging for this for literally years, your developers should know what a two dimensional list is (if they don't send them to programming starter classes or hire better ones!). This is easy to implement and ignoring your customers seems like a luxury you can't afford. Your competition might be implementing this feature right now. 😉

Why are we still waiting for this!?

I want this so badly, with it Spotify would be perfect!

Yes, although I enjoy Spotify, I find it very lacking without this feature. It's like having all the books in the public library in just one big pile,

How!? How is this not yet a feature!? It so easy to implement, and would provide such a quality of life improvement!

Old thread, but I hope @nickknain is still around. I'm trying out your web app, sir, and I mostly like it – well done.

But the move icon doesn't appear on all the covers when I push the reorder button. Same on Chrome and Safari. Same albums each time and the ones without it can't be moved. Screen grab below. Is this a known bug?

A ha - this is actually just a limitation of how the reordering code works. Albums in the collection that aren't "complete" won't be movable. Here's a screen recording I just took to illustrate what I mean: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10A0fO3uxxBPXzt2uQJRPavOcqQ8dOqg9/view?usp=sharing
