Hey folks, We wanted to post an update as a lot of you have added your votes to this idea.
We’re always working on improving the Spotify experience across platforms, but we’re afraid we don’t have any further information to share at the moment.
We typically don't announce integrations with third parties in advance. The best place to keep an eye on is on the Spotify Newsroom blog for updates about any partnerships.
I have just subscribed last week to Apple Music, will test it for a few weeks and then if happy, I will drop Spotify (assuming they don't do anything on their side to solve this problem).
So far apple music is working really good on the apple watch with my air pods when I go for a run!
Per idownload blog it's coming from Spotify already. The original developer of Snowy posted this today. So most of the work is done but now it will be a part of Spotify's app and might get better API calls now.
"I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be working closely with Spotify to bring Snowy to the Apple Watch as part of an official Spotify iOS app. Spotify’s powerful iOS SDK made it possible to develop Snowy, but I can’t wait to take things to the next level with the expertise and tools available at Spotify."
While I can’t give any estimates as to when it’ll be available, you can rest assured that a Spotify Apple Watch companion app is in the pipeline.
Who accepted this as solution? A vague hope of something that is in the works to be released at some unspecified time in the future , is not a solition.
This is not a vague hope. The developer was getting ready to release this as a third party app. Beta Testers had copies already in test but Spotify Legal got involved. From the sounds of it, the app has been acquired and this will make it even better now that the developer will have access to the special Spotify API's.
I know this isnt a perfect solution, but if you are listening to Spotify on your Mac/PC and you want to control it from your Apple Watch at first you cannot control the music from your watch.
What you need to do is open Spotify on your phone and choose the option "Devices Avaliable" and hit "Continue" to continue listening on your Mac/PC.
This will let you have all the functions of the music control app on the Apple watch app.
One of my favorite features of this, is the ability to use the dial on the watch for volume control.
Devices: Apple Watch 42mm Series 1 WatchOS 3.2, iPhone 6S Plus 64GB Gold iOS 10.3.1, MacBook Pro Retina (15-inch, Mid 2012) i7 16GB Ram, 512 SSD, Nvidia 650M MacOS 10.12.4, iCloud: iOS Developer Account
A solution should not be accepted until you can download an app for the AW and you can save songs to the watch's memory so you can listen to them without your phone being close. Unless it is an official announcement (like in Spotify's blog) with a concrete date, this is just a tease. Right now trying Apple Music until you fix this or I decide to switch to them.
