Apple Watch: Offline Listening

 

watchOS 5 should allow Spotify to develop an app that allows offline listening and streaming via cellular data.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

Тhis has been one of our most upvoted ideas and we've known it's something that our users would really like to see come true. We're happy to announce that this feature will now become available for the Apple Watch Series 3 or later.


It will be gradually rolled out, so it might take a bit until everybody has access to it.  That being said, we'd like to let you know that the roll-out rate has increased a lot in the last weeks, so if you haven't received the feature in the past, try reinstalling the app on your watch again and there's a big chance you'll get Offline listening now.

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better and voting to make this happen, here on the Community.

Please add Apple Watch functionality. Regretfully had to switch from Premium to Apple Music a few months ago. Premium, in fact Free Spotify, is far superior to Apple Music but I stick with it purely for watch support.

Commenting on here will make little difference. The only way to make an impact is like this, my Premium sub was cancelled today.

I think Spotify should really implement this, as it’s a huge draw back for all Apple Watch users (and there are a lot of them) who want to listen to music and podcasts with just the watch. They, including me, will have to switch to Apple Music & Apple Podcasts, even if they prefer Spotify.

Amazes me how Pandora never gets any love here. Apple Music is not your only choice.  I tried Apple, then Pandora. Pandora works great and that's what I have stayed with for streaming to my Apple Watch for both music and podcasts.

@schmeer - it’s only available in the USA, so it’s not an option for the vast majority of people.

Not that one more opinion will sway the dev team, but adding my comment as well...

 

As a (very) long time Premium Spotify subscriber, I just signed up for Apple Music's 3 month trial so I can workout with my Apple Watch and not need to lug around my phone. If Spotify doesn't catch up by October when my trial ends, I'll be permanently switching services.

For me the same. I'm in the Apple Music 3 month trail now. If Spotify will not be able to work standalone on Apple Watch in October I will switch to Apple Music.
