Apple Watch: Offline Listening

 

watchOS 5 should allow Spotify to develop an app that allows offline listening and streaming via cellular data.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

Тhis has been one of our most upvoted ideas and we've known it's something that our users would really like to see come true. We're happy to announce that this feature will now become available for the Apple Watch Series 3 or later.


It will be gradually rolled out, so it might take a bit until everybody has access to it.  That being said, we'd like to let you know that the roll-out rate has increased a lot in the last weeks, so if you haven't received the feature in the past, try reinstalling the app on your watch again and there's a big chance you'll get Offline listening now.

Would be great to use my cellular Apple Watch without my phone present to be able to play off a bluetooth speaker given that everything on the Apple Watch end works, all needed is the Spotify compatibility. Connection will load forever and lack actual output, very close but disappointing.

Spotify offline, probably the most important premium feature is still working terribly bad on smart watches (or not at all like with Apple devices).
This is sad and unbelievable.

Be careful deleting/re-adding the app if you have any streaming functionality now. I had it streaming for WiFi only (cell just wouldn't work despite appropriate hardware & phone plan) so I wiped Spotify from the phone and re-added it... now I can't select the watch as the playback source. Oops.

If they do not fix this soon, I'm going to change to Apple Music.

I just bought an Apple Watch so that I could download music and run without my phone. I guess I took it for granted that this feature will be available... a huge oversight. I’ll be getting rid of my Spotify and getting Apple Music if this doesn’t change soon.

I really love Spotify but if this feature can't be added for my new Apple Watch I will sadly need to switch to Apple Music.

I switched to Apple Music solely due to not allowing for offline playback.

I will also be trialling Apple Music and if it is decent I’ll be moving to it and cancelling Spotify. 

i love Spotify but with my new Apple Watch this feature is a dealbreaker for me

I actually hate Apple Music haha but offline is a deal breaker for me
