Apple Watch: Offline Listening

 

watchOS 5 should allow Spotify to develop an app that allows offline listening and streaming via cellular data.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

Тhis has been one of our most upvoted ideas and we've known it's something that our users would really like to see come true. We're happy to announce that this feature will now become available for the Apple Watch Series 3 or later.


It will be gradually rolled out, so it might take a bit until everybody has access to it.  That being said, we'd like to let you know that the roll-out rate has increased a lot in the last weeks, so if you haven't received the feature in the past, try reinstalling the app on your watch again and there's a big chance you'll get Offline listening now.

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better and voting to make this happen, here on the Community.

Spotify not being able to play music directly from the apple watch to my headphones without an iphone nearby (meaning it's completely useless on a run) is the only reason why I'm switching away from spotify to apple music. I don't plan on keeping tabs on spotify patch notes either, so I really don't see myself swapping back.  This is such an obvious UX flaw, I'm amazed a company of this size and scale managed to stumble like this.

Thanks, @Franc2018, this worked! I now have Apollo on my Watch and can stream Spotify to my AirPods without having my phone with me! I even donated 5 GBP to them :):)

Looks like they may have blocked @Franc2018. They removed his original message with the instructions on how to get the Apollo app.

Got to love the fact that Spotify only monitors this forum to remove posts of people trying to help other people, rather than making posts to keep us updated on their own development and/or business reason for not implementing offline/streaming playback.
