[iOS] Siri Shortcuts Support

PREFACE:

With the release of iOS 12, iPhone users can now utilize Shortcuts to make the most of their daily routines by automating tasks and steps in both native and third party apps. Currently, the extent to which Spotify can be utilized via Shortcuts is to simply Open App.

IDEA:

I wish to see more options and a wider scope of utility of Spotify in Shortcuts to the capacity of playing specific playlists when I leave my home, and adding the current song to a new custom playlist that I can name, or even copying a song link to a tweet. I know the Shortcut app would be capable of handling a workflow along those lines but it seems it would require a bit more generosity from the Spotify app.

MODERATORS:

Please note that this is NOT the same idea requested here considering that post is requesting for "Siri Integration" not "Shortcut Support". In addition, this idea is no longer an announcement as prefaced here and is now a public feature in iOS 12 as of Monday (9/17).

Hey folks, Spotify staff here.

We wanted to post an update as this idea has reached over 500 votes from our users.

We’re always working on improving the Spotify experience across platforms, but we’re afraid we don’t have any further information to share at the moment.

We typically don't announce integrations with third parties in advance. The best place to keep an eye on is our blog for news updates about any such partnerships.

Thanks for continuing to share your ideas and give us feedback in our Idea Exchange.

When can this be a feature that is supported?

So I could easily make a script that plays the playlist.  I was wondering if there was interest in us being able to just hold down the up volume button or double clicking it in order to just play/pause a specific playlist.  At the very least, a cool automation would be great but if you look for one on Reddit you’ll get a very long script that I don’t fully trust.  I asked support about this and told them I would check back in a week.  It has been a week and they said there was no change but that they suggested that I add it as a suggestion and see what kind of response this idea could get from the community.  Could you imagine how much effort would be saved if you could just hold down the up volume button instead of even having to look at or open the Lock Screen?

Just here to chime in that it’s criminal that 6 years on this doesn’t exist, I want to be able to automate complicated things in addition to a lot of these features I’ve managed to use my Alexa to autoplay music when I arrive home and I’ve managed to get my playlist to open when I leave the house but I would love to see more complex features too like being able to automatically add automatically generated playlists to my own playlists as I like to make blends for different groups and would like to essentially make an archive of them as sometimes the 50 songs isn’t enough for the day and it’s nice to have some older stuff mixed in with the new. This would also be cool for the likes of Release Radar & Discover Weekly even Genre mixes.

Please allow us to customize our music experience on Spotify by crafting our own Shortcuts. Shortcuts has become an integral part of making iPhone and Mac work with all our other devices.
These actions should ideally be donated to the iOS 17+ automatic shortcuts.

Some actions I’d like to see are:

Current Spotify Connect device: Self-explanatory.
Current song/podcast data: Should be customizable via Magic Variable configuration, but default to Song by Artist as it shows in the media Live Activity.
Just play: For Spotify Premium users, plays a specific song (this technically can be done with the built-in “Play Music” action, but implementing this specifically for Spotify can help with discovery). Should take either a title or URL/URI.

Play playlist: Same notes.
Add to playlist: Okay.
Like/dislike song: This could be an three option action, with the obvious like and dislike, and then toggle. It does what it would seem it does.
Current song URL: An action containing the current song’s URL (should also be customizable to URI via the Magic Variable configuration).
Is music?: A Boolean that returns false if it’s an audiobook or an podcast, or nothing is playing. True if it’s music.

Is podcast?: Ditto.
Is audiobook?: Yep.
Start DJ: Yep.
Create playlist: Okay.
Start radio from song: Takes a song from URL/URI and starts the Radio based off that song.
Remix DJ: If the DJ playlist is playing, remix it. Otherwise, start it.
Pinned music: You should add a option to the skewer menu to Pin to Siri. Then, this action can take that list and spit out its URL/URI.

And I forgot about Smart Shuffle, add an action to turn on/off/toggle that as well.

When is Spotify going to permit this. It’s pathetic that this suggestion has not been implemented. Bring in iOS shortcuts!,,,
